Chapter 59 by Alias The Rat Alias The Rat

Who are you going to join on their mission from Hell?

Kate Mars, as she spreads the faith.

The House of All Believers is your traditional megachurch, a large ultramodern building on the outside with what amounts to a stadium on the inside for mass worship. Reverend Mars has opened it for refugees from the Lilin's rampage, in what he says is a demonstration that "the power of God can withstand the power of Hell."

You and Kate share a chuckle about that, as you enter its glittering halls with a handful of others. There's a strange hollowness to the faith here that lets you walk about with no difficulty. Shortly after you enter, a stately older gentleman approaches you, smiling. "Kate!" he says.

Kate beams at him. "Grandpa!"

The man smiles. "I was so worried when I heard about the fires at the mall."

"I got out, Grandpa," she says, with a smile. "With some friends." You nod, along with Mick, Vicki, Jess, and your parents, the little group chosen to infiltrate the House of All Believers. All of you are in glamour, with your mother and father looking to be college students, the same age as you and Jess. Kate's grandfather offers you his hand.

"The Reverend Samuel Oaks," he says. "Founder of the House of All Believers." He gestures over to an attractive woman in late middle age. "And my wife, Ruth."

"Oh, dear," says Ruth Oaks, approaching her granddaughter and giving her a hug. "It's such a blessing to know you're safe!" Samuel and Ruth radiate the faith that Kate once did. It's clear they're the source of her former convictions. You wonder what they think of the glittering, empty shrine their self-righteous son-in-law has made of their church.

Kate fidgets uncomfortably, breaking free of the hug. You can tell she finds the pair "Gramps... Gram... Do... do you know where Dad is? And... Mom?"

Samuel frowns. "You're father's in his office, and as for Hannah... she's..."

"Right here," says Hannah Mars. Kate's mother is an attractive blonde, in her mid-thirties, though her clothes are of course dowdy and conservative. She smiles at her daughter. "Oh, Kate," she says, embracing the teen, "it's so good to see you."

"You too, mom," Kate murmurs, burying herself in Hannah's embrace. You notice Kate's hand start for her mother's ass, and give a slight cough. Kate remembers herself, and keeps up the charade. "I... could you take me to Dad? I really have to tell him about what I've learned about... the Strain."

"Sure, hon," says Hannah.

"I should come too," you note, stepping forward. "I saw quite a bit too, and... well, two heads are better than one for this sort of thing."

"Oh, you shouldn't wear yourself out," says Ruth Oaks. "Why don't you head to the little shelter we've set up?" She seems so sweet you have to restrain yourself from ravishing her right there, as Kate sends her desire that her grandparents be saved for later.

"We'll take you up on that," says Jess, "but he really does know some things that could help you."

Kate nods. "Right. He's been a real BIG help to me personally..."

Hannah smiles. "Okay, hon. I'll take you right to him." You and Kate follow her, while the Oaks lead the rest of your group to the sanctuary they've set up.

Which fiendish activity shall you focus on?
