Chapter 8 by Warlord Warlord

Karnak the Chronicler

You are certain of two things at this point, the first being that it was not a breeze you were feeling earlier and the second being that its source is not at all what you would've thought it would be. You trace the outline of the creature before you quickly, preparing for the distinct possibility that you may end up fighting something you know nothing about at any given moment. The size of the thing is immense to say the least but it isn't the size of the beast that you are fixated on now. A single, golden, reptilian eye is glaring at you, adjusting here and there almost as if it were dissecting you with its gaze, to say the feeling was uncomfortable would be an egregious understatement.

"Ah, much better," booms the voice, no longer a whisper as before. The creature doesn't seem to move when it speaks, in fact it lies almost completely still save for its rhythmic breathing and its prying eye. "Don't you think? By now I'm sure you've a few guesses as to who or what I am. No I am not a deity, I tried that once and it didn’t suit me at all. Demon? Hardly, cant stand them personally. I’m a dragon of course, it’s usually the second or third guess. You needn't introduce yourself I already know your name, but you might like to know mine. You may call me Karnak."

The voice finishes and a profound silence fills the space as each of you wait for the other to speak. You can't quite seem to find your voice as you're awestruck at the sight of the being before you, a DRAGON. Prior generations whispered about them, they revered them as the masters of mystery and magic. No one had seen a dragon for generations, let alone spoken to one.

"Well then, let's not stand on ceremony. That blood on your body is quite a prize and those tusks even more so, it's quite an achievement to have earned those. There are only a handful beings alive capable of such a feat, and much fewer capable of doing so without powerful magic at their disposal. I find this interesting indeed but I also find it a bit troubling. Those tusks are dangerous weapons in their own right and have an incredibly sharp edge but I'm afraid you aren't using them to the fullest of their potential. It's not surprising that you missed this as the magic of the Raghik is exceptionally subtle. The blood of the Raghik has astounding potential for power as well but you couldn't possibly have activated that power on your own. This is where I come in. The potential of the Raghik is no mystery to me but your potential however, remains to be seen. I have decided to give you what you are lacking so that I may see that potential to its fullest degree. Allow me to demonstrate this..."

The dragon shifts slightly for a moment, extending the tip of its tail toward you. A pale luminescence gathers on the point of its tail as it comes into contact with the blood-tattoo on your right shoulder.
