Chapter 9
by Warlord
What's next?
Karnak's gift
Thin threads of light radiate outward from the point of initial contact expanding down the twisted knotwork of the blood-tattoo, turning it from a dull dark crimson to a bold luminous white. You feel a surge of energy course through you as the last of the red stain is replaced with vivid white. The tusks feel almost weightless in your hands now, you can almost feel the beat of your heart emanating from within them.
"See what I mean." The dragon says calmly, almost soothingly. "You have just become more powerful than you could imagine."
It seems true enough, you certainly feel powerful. You sheathe a tusk and reach your hand out to a low hanging stalactite and grip it tightly. The stone shatters with relative ease in your grip, the remaining stone being ground into powder as you close your hand completely.
"That's just the beginning. Give that tusk a swing." He says, with a hint of pride in his gravelly voice. You swing the tusk in your left hand at a stalagmite in front of you, slicing cleanly through it with hardly any resistance whatsoever. You wonder what other effects this has had on you.
"With those you can devour your enemy on a magical level and killing a being with those will grant you a measure of its power, the power granted being proportional to the power of the slain being. For example, if you kill an elk you might gain some small amount of speed or agility and the effect might last a few minutes. However if you kill something bigger such as, perhaps, a Wild God, you would gain nearly all of its abilities in addition to your own and the abilities gained would be nearly permanent. No mortal could possibly live long enough to exhaust such enduring power."
"These can kill gods?" I ask, meaning to keep my comment inside my own mind but instead blurting it out plainly.
"Honestly there aren't many things those tusks can't kill if used properly. In this state they are practically unbreakable not to mention that impenetrable edge. You still aren't ready though. If you enter Atmora like this you won't make it very far. That is why I suggest you kill a Wild God, if you can manage to kill one of them you might actually gain enough power to survive this campaign of yours. You know which one I speak of, the Wild God of the Forest, Gidul. Your kin have trespassed on her land before and paid a terrible price. Such things are far easier said than done though, while those markings should protect you from most non-magical damage they offer you only minor protection against spells and magic. Will you heed my advice and face Gidul?
Will you kill Gidul?
