Jason clocks in at work - a local electronics store

Jason swiped his card on the check-in scanner and got a green light, two minutes before his deadline for his evening shift at "Best Electronics & Home Supplies." One of the mega-corp electronic stores that had cornered the market the past twenty years. Walking through the hallway connecting the worker wardrobes to the back of the store, he dropped by the men's changing room and opened his locker to get his work-uniform shirt and shoes. The females had a parallel changing room next door, probably a mirror of the men's room. The back of the changing rooms had a single shower unit and a couple of toilet cubicles.

Going out into the hallway again, Jason walked by the administration entrance and break room. The only person in the change room was Bradley, filling a paper cup of coffee for a five minute break. He was a floor runner like himself, but he was ten, fifteen years his senior and had been around for a while. He was an okay guy, unambitious and laid-back, but they had very few common interests, so most of their conversations would end up about the weather. Jason waved hello at him as he glanced at the whiteboard with some basic information written up, and moved into the store to find his manager of the day.

"Oh hi Jason," Jessica the manager of the shift said as she saw him enter the store. "Just in time, there's a customer over in aisle five..." she continued, giving him an apologetic face. Jason knew what that implied. Someone's being a problem and she'd like you to solve it.

"I'll look into it," Jason said with a weary smile, a bit annoyed that nobody else on the clock had done their job and figured the guy out. He walked off in the right direction and saw Hideki Masterson, another colleague, male, half Japanese, a few years older than himself, focusing intently on the computer screen to avoid the task Jason's been given.

Hideki hadn't inherited the typical work ethics of the Japanese male, from what Jason could tell. Well, hikikomori's and NEETs were a staple of Japanese society today from what he'd read, so maybe he was. In the end, he was one of those that avoided doing their job if they could, and Jason had little interest in entertaining people that didn't take responsibility. Hideki knew a thing or two about tech, which was probably the only thing keeping him employed.

Either way, Jason gave him a stare as he walked by, which Hideki ignored. Jason turned the corner of aisle five and could already hear the signs of a troublesome customer.
