Chapter 4 by AinBaum AinBaum

I guess that means fighting?

It means fighting

You should be worried, about a dozen goblins running at you, simply wanting you dead is not a calmness inducing situation. And yet, all you can feel is anticipation, they're running through tall grass, there is a slight breeze in your back and it hasn't rained in days. Without any trace of panicked hurry you raise your left hand, the torch magically flickering to a fiery live, and stick it into the grass in front of you. Immediately the fire bites itself into its newest host, within moments it spreads further, within seconds it spreads accross the grass and deeper inside, it does not take long and everything is engulfed in flames. It must be quite terrifying for the goblins, one moment they're running through grass, the next it's fire instead and no matter where they turn to get out, the flames are already there, leaving no escape. After only a short time all that is left to hear is the crackling of the flames...

Until you hear a high-pitched shout or rather shriek, a lone goblin runs next to the field, untouched by the flames, channeling his fury into a warcry but betraying fear in the same motion, understandably so, you just burned a whole horde of them. The little green pest doesn't wear much in terms of clothing, as is normal for the goblins around here, far more important however, is the short (for humans) spear with which he runs at you. A single goblin is weak, no problem at all for you, the sharpened stone-tip is avoided with a swift sidestep and repaid with a quick jab of the still burning torch against the throat. Your hit may have caused the goblin to stumble to a halt, but he had enough momentum to carry him a few feet away, giving him time to turn around and face you before you're near enough him for another hit. Your by now drawn sword is blocked by an impressively fast movement of the spear, the jabbing torch is evaded by a step backwards, you are rather impressed with him holding himself exceptonally well for a goblin as you lift your sword to redirect a stab the goblin sends your way. But he is still only that, a goblin, as the spear still uselessly skewers the air you take a decisive stab forward, did I say step? or stab? anyways, in this case it's the same and the goblin wouldn't care about such questions but rather about the sword in his chest, ah well. The enemy dissapears, leaving only a loot bag. Reminded of such important matters you pick it up and quickly recover the other loot bags from the still smouldering (but no longer burning) field. You just pocket everything without giving it a proper look, something came to your mind, that's why. The fire leaves a lot of smoke in the air, more goblins will surely come, curious what happened, and you'd rather not let them know that they have agood reason to attack you, you couldn't fight yet another horde like that, the field burned down after all.

After maybe ten minutes of very brisk walking (you needed a combination of fast and not too noticeable) you sit down on a rock to inspect what exactly that fight gave you in return.

Inventory:
36 Blackberry
43 honeyberry
9 Mellonberry
17 redberry
1 small fur (hare)
1 hare meat
16 tall grass
2 broken baubles
7 odd trinkets
1 E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial for Atari 2600
4 toenail clippings
6 unopenable cans of beans
1 Torch (13:57)
1 sandpaper
1 Goblin-Bread

So, nothing but a bunch of trash apart from a sandpaper and a bread. You take a few bites from the bread as lunch while you investigate the sandpaper ... apparently it can be used to apply minor upgrades to certain weapons while on the go, without hesitation you apply it on your sword. It would have taken you some time to figure out how to use it exactly, but as soon as that question became relevant a pop-up window, well, popped up.

Tutorial

Apply sandpaper by repeatedly moving it along the rusty parts of your weapon until the paper dissolves.

This will decrease the rust level of your weapon by one.

And so your situation has increased after just a few minutes more, you are fed for now and your weapon got a bit better, it's still rusty, but less than before. While you were derusting away you had an idea, what about experience, you managed to get a few kills in the past and gain a level in afew lives, always with your liquid fire though, you of course tried setting things on fire as well, but that worked far less well, it seems like your _arsonist _feat was secretly buffed, not that you complain. Anyways, you ought to look at your character sheet before resuming todays work.

Three levels, you gained three levels at once, unbelievable. You certainly didn't expect that. One level up, yes, with so many kills, but three!? I mean, you're not complaining, not at all, it's just surprising. Actually, it's more than surprising, it's also exciting, you have never been at such a high level, you even gained a new feat. You didn't like the games last update at first, it took your bed (yes, happens everytime, but that doesn't make it better) and your liquid fire (Boo!) which you're still miffed about, but it's certainly trying to make up for all that, oh yes.

Happily you move on to resume your work, you have to look for more grass, you'll nedd at least 50 to make a sleeping mattress, not just 16.

Do you find more Grass?
