Chapter 19 by extreme1000

Who is it?

It's no one

The room was empty, but she still felt like something was seriously off.

Someone had been here, she was sure of it, on the surface everything seemed normal, but she suspected she'd find that some things were off if she searched around, after all, she wouldn't have heard anything if things had been fine.

Like most superhero's, Rogue had a streak of hair trigger paranoia to her, and something like this was seriously setting off red flags for her.

She looked all over for some evidence that supported her belief, but she found nothing, the windows were closed and the front door didn't look messed with.

Either she was paranoid from the edge (she didn't think it was that as she'd never seen paranoia listed as a side effect) or someone was very good at covering their tracks.

She really hoped it was the former, but she had a nagging suspicion about the latter.

Which meant that she was unnerved enough that sleep was now out of the question.

She had to find something to occupy her time until she was finally too exhausted to actually stay awake.

Unfortunately for her, TV was terrible, and she was staying off the Internet for the moment because she wanted her profile to be as low as possible and doing something like accidentally logging into a site that would give her away wouldn't help that goal, so she was at square one.

She settled on grabbing a trashy novel to read, hoping she'd get lost in that world.

Of course, her mind couldn't get away from what happened, mainly because she wanted to know just why someone would break in.

She knew that, if they were looking for evidence that she was still with the X-Men, they wouldn't find anything, but still, it left her wondering who the Muties really were.

Given recent events, she was pretty sure there was no way they were just a simple street gang, something bigger had to be at play here.

Then it hit her like a ton of bricks: The mole might have learned that she was undercover.

That thought sent a shiver down her spine, if the mole knew, then there was a good chance the other member of the gang already knew.

She might have been in a lot more trouble than she'd thought.

The paranoia set in and she began trying to figure out a way to look for cameras that could have been hidden or something that could have told her why they had broken in.

Multiple times she went through the apartment, trying to find something, but she couldn't find a shred, she felt ready to tear the apartment apart until she found what she was looking for.

Eventually, the constant checking left her exhausted and she finally felt like she could get to sleep.

She flopped into her bed, pulled the covers over herself and vowed to call Jean as soon as she woke up to help her figure something out.

What happens next?
