Investigate the Numbered Rooms

I stepped across and opened the room numbered six. As I opened it, I was hit with a wall of humidity that made me realize just how desiccated the air was around me. Continuing in, I found the same cot as in my room, but also a humidifier plugged into an outlet I had overlooked in my room. Though I was tempted to enjoy the humidity a little longer, I decided to move on.

The next room I checked was room seven. As I opened it, I was surprised to see a tiny man lying on the cot. Figuring that he was another captive, I quietly approached the bed and gently shook his shoulder. He didn't wake and I figured that he must have been ****, as I was.

This was good, since it meant that I could bite down on one of his arms and he probably wouldn't struggle, though I could probably overpower him and… I pushed myself away from him so forcefully that my back slammed against the far wall as the cot rocked back and forth so violently that I thought he might be dumped onto the floor.

I stood there, breathing heavily, my fangs painfully digging into my gums as I held my mouth clamped tightly shut. Still, my desire to feed on him was painfully strong. I gradually **** it down, reminding myself that he had been **** and partaking in his blood would transfer the blood to me, which I definitely didn't want. I quickly left his room without checking it, but it seemed the same as mine.

Finally, I made my way back to the room across from mine and prayed that it wouldn't have anyone in it whom I might be compelled to feed upon. To my relief, it was empty, save for a cot like mine. I moved in, intending to check under the cot, when my nose brought me to an instant halt—I recognized a smell. Desperately, I pulled the woolen blanket to my face and sucked in the scent, like a drowning man would suck in fresh air.

Mira was here.

I tried to figure out when, but the smell was faint and I didn't know anything about determining how long a smell had lingered. I also tried to feel if the blanket or cot was warm, but couldn't feel any lingering body heat. Still, it was the closest I'd been to finding my sister since this whole thing began and I was **** to know where she was now.
