Invasion! But Are We the Baddies?

A few rocks tumbled down as both you and Boba jumped back, avoiding the falling rocks as the way through became clearer, but...

The echoing chittering set your nerves on edge as a giant bug crawled through the hole, heading straight for you!

You yelped in terror as Boba called out to her fellow Goblins, who grabbed their weapons and prepared for battle.

As the bug descended on you, you tried blocking with your sword, but it was barely larger than the creature's pincers, forcing you onto your back after the first charge. You thought this might be the end for you when a medium boulder fell from the pile, crushing the back half of the bug, and narrowly missing your legs.

You didn't even have time to rejoice when two more bugs crawled through the now gaping hole, and right behind them was more as they started pouring into the small chamber.

You **** yourself up as a few arrows flew into the crowd, striking but not killing the invading ant-like bugs.

"Thanks, system for not warning me the mine was occupied!" You complained, crying out as one of the bugs got your leg between its mandibles and squeezed.

You decided to fight back by stabbing at its head, but your blade could barely break through the chitin surrounding it.

Your vision started to go hazy as a green blur jumped towards you, her tiny knife seemingly inconsequential against the armor, but it slid through like a hot knife.

You expected it to release you and run away, but apparently that was more than enough to kill the beast, as it went limp, its pincers still tightly gripping your leg. Without it fighting back, however, you were able to get free as you tried to stand, only to grit your teeth at your now useless leg.

"Where all these bugs come from?" Boba asked, as she swiped at an advancing bug, cleaving a line in its chitin.

"My guess would be they were living in this mine we've taken over and aren't taking kindly to us messing with their home." You replied, leaning against a wall as the tide of bugs seemed to slow down, but there were still more than 20 giant ants fighting and killing all the Goblins, who seemed woefully unable to fight back, even in groups of three or more. You counted two other ant corpses that weren't moving anymore.

"I don't suppose you know how to kill these things?" You joked as Boba looked solemnly at her fallen brethren. You watched as she picked up a rock and clenched before it started glowing bright blue.

You saw her angrily throw the rock as it hit the side of an ant about to bite a Goblin in half, only for two of its legs and its chitinous armor to crack as the rock hit it.

"Holy shit!" You cursed as Boba breathed heavily. Was that Imbue?

You stared at your sword for a moment, trying to figure out how to do it when it took on a small glow, which got immediately put to the test as the ants started noticing the Gobliness killing them and charged at her.

You put up a valiant effort protecting her, but even with your newfound power, your sword just didn't have the power to land a killing blow so easily, forcing you to fend off multiple snapping mandibles as you littered their heads with wounds that leaked greenish blood.

Finally, they broke through, and near trampled you to **** as they surrounded Boba, biting at her as she weakly tried to escape.

The other Goblins ran to help, but they were useless as their tiny daggers and arrows did nothing but resounded off the back end as the ants grabbed Boba, dragging her back towards the hole.

You got up, intended to rescue her before a long furry leg pushed its way through the hole, followed by seven others as you found yourself staring down six eyes and a massive spider. Was this their leader, or just a lieutenant?

Its eyes swept over the battlefield before alighting on the prey the ants had claimed. "Take her to Egg Room, fill her." The voice was sibilant and terrifying, and certainly shouldn't be coming from a spider that size.

You considered trying to race past the spider to save Boba but were dissuaded of that notion by another small Goblin attempting the same thing, only for the spider to nail him to the ground with a gooey web.

You watched as Boba disappeared into the dark, helpless to save her. If you wanted her back, you'd have to kill this spider first.
