Sapphire’s Coat

Sapphire loved her job as a sales floor employee at a large electronics store. She was great at her pitch and her managers thought highly of her. The store’s profits had gone up considerably since Sapphire had found her groove, working tirelessly to sell any item to any customer browsing the shelves. The work uniform was a green button shirt, which contained the brand logo, was tucked neatly into tan slacks. Dressing in any other way was not allowed by management, but Sapphire loved the dress code and stayed true to her employer’s wishes.

On one particular Fall day, Sapphire noticed a customer was browsing for laptops, but there was something peculiar about this person. It was a woman of average height and build, a pretty face and black hair, but the woman was wearing a rather large, bright orange puffer jacket. This was no ordinary jacket, and especially for the weather outside, which was around 60 degrees F. Sapphire tried not to stare and pretended to stock invisible items, as she positioned herself in a way where she could keep an eye on the strange person. The sleeves of the jacket were so puffy, she thought, that this had to be a jacket for a mountain expedition, but surely this was not appropriate clothing for a tech store.
