Chapter 1075 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Inspect the stove.

Straight away you notice that something is wrong. Not only is there some charring on the floor, but the stove physically jostles on its own as you walk in. After a long pause, it moves again. So you cautiously reach for the handle of your sword just in case, and you start to draw it as you near the malfunctioning appliance. It shifts again, almost like a hop with its little legs, though all it does is damage the floor right beneath it.

"Do you think it's alive?" Summer asks.

"It might be possessed or something!" Eva adds.

As strange as it sounds, you feel the urge to try a certain spell on it regardless. Your mana is recharged and you're ready to dish out some magic. So while you do still keep one hand on your scabbard, you touch your fingers to the top of the oven and speak plainly, "Pleasure," just to see what happens.

Much to your surprise, or perhaps not, something fires out the top of the stove with a whimper of guilty pleasure. It's Mela! Thankfully this doesn't cause her to screech, or everyone would be in trouble, but the banshee flutters back down from the ceiling in panic and confusion.

"Where am I? What is happening?" she asks frantically.

"You were... possessing our stove?" you say, uncertain. "Was that not on purpose?"

"I did what? Oh dear. I did not mean to hurt anybody, or even cause a disturbance. See, while I do not sleep, I do occasionally meditate. It helps calm myself. Rest my mind. And the last thing I remember is doing that not far from here, and then--" Once again, she looks around the room. "I am so sorry, everybody."

"Did you sleep-possess something?" Eva asks.

"I would not say that, as I do not sleep."

"Relax, Mela. But you might want to work on that. I don't want you accidentally possessing too many things. Now we'll have to get Mina to look at the stove."

She bows her head low. "Please, please forgive me!"

You cross your arms. "All right. I'll forgive you, but you need to do something for me," you say with a grin.

She looks up, horrified. "N-No... Anything but th-that."

"What? No. Why does everyone always think--" You shake your head. "I was going to ask you to help Eva and I with something." But then you turn your eyes to the rabbit. "Is that okay with you?"

Eva nods. "Y-Yeah. I think so."

"We need your brain," you say back to the ghost. "Mistress of Monsters."

That seems to spark joy back into the heart of the spirit. She readjusts her spectacles, whether they're truly doing anything or not. Ghosts are strange. "Ah, you have something for me to research?"

You poke your head back through the kitchen door and shout down the hall. "Are you still down there, Lynx?" you ask. "If you can, fetch Mina, or Yin if she's--"

Poof! Yin appears in front of you. It nearly causes you fall flat on your back.

"I-I'm so sorry, Master," she exclaims before holding your hand between both of hers--incredibly warm. "Is there anything I can do to make this up to you?"

"... Uh, yeah. I just needed someone to bring Mina here to work on the stove. Or Laira if she knows how to do that. Or Fava I guess too, but I'm more concerned she's turn the thing into some kind of twisted game." You turn your eyes back to Mela. "Meanwhile, let's discuss things in the meeting room. You, me, and Eva."
