In the wardrobe

Your curiosity gets the better of you, leading you to open the wardrobe to see if it might have enough space for you to hide in. That’s definitely the only reason. It’s not like you desperately want to see what’s inside, and this is one of the few times you’ve been unattended in Elaine’s house, thus giving you the best opportunity to check.

You swing open the doors to find… nothing. It’s completely empty. You’re thoroughly confused. Why was this such a big deal that Elaine didn’t want you looking inside? You snap back to attention as you hear Elaine finish counting, and without a better alternative, you jump inside the wardrobe and pull the doors shut.

Barely any time has passed at all when the doors swing open, revealing a rather dreary-looking Elaine. “I guess it’s only natural for you to hide where I tell you to never even look…” She slumps forward, looking somehow defeated. You want to say something to cheer her up, but you’re at a loss when you don’t know what’s going on.

“Well, now you know. The secret’s out, I suppose. It’s empty. I just wanted it here for the looks. You must think I’m incredibly vain now, right?”

You stare back at her blankly. “No, not really. I mean, that was the secret? I already know you care a lot about home decoration, so something like this seems pretty normal for you.” Elaine recoils in shock, a blush starting to crawl across her cheeks. You can’t seem to stop yourself as you continue, “In fact, it’s kinda cool for you to have such a clear idea of what you want your room to look like. This Victorian theme is something I’d never come up with but I really like it. You’re really good at this stuff and- *mmmblrgh*”

Elaine, face bright red, covers your mouth with her hand. “Stop it. That’s enough. You’re being too nice and it’s weird. Just get out of there.” Even if her words are cold, her mouth looks like it’s fighting back a smile. I-Is she happy or not?
