I'll take Flora's advice and go to Summer

“Flora might have a point,” you tell Amari.” I think I should go down to talk to Summer. Avoid any unwanted attention.”

Amari taps her foot and crosses her arms, not wanting to agree with you. “Could be a trap.”

“Could not be.” You reply.

Flora remains silent but watches you and Amari with a worried expression. There’s something on her mind, but she doesn’t say it.

“So, when are you going?” Amari asks.

“I’m going to leave later in the day,” you explain. “If I can’t help it, I’m going to avoid being surrounded by cops. So, maybe nighttime?”

“Might be smart,” Amari says. “But until then, we stay inside, avoiding being seen. I’m sure Thatcher and what’s-his-face are watching the hotel.”

“Right…” Flora trails off. “I’ll stay inside then. I’ve got a book to read.”

Flora leaves the living room, leaving just you and Amari, who continues to talk. “Don’t let us that distract you from doing your own thing. If you want to sleep and stick around, be my guest. But if you want to go out and do something, go for it.”

“What’s there to even do in Billings?” You ask.

“Good job,” Amari beams at you. “Your questions are improving!” You make a face at her, and she sighs.

“The morning strip club might be a good place to have a generalized chat. I know there are a few places to get a massage. Shit, Warren... You got my hopes up, and now that I’m thinking about it, that was a stupid question.”

“You’re a big boy and have a fully developed brain. If you want to go out and explore, do it. Just… you know… Don’t do anything that would reflect poorly on us. As it is, we might need to bounce from that little bunker at the airport.”

This is as human as you’ve seen, Amari. For once, she seems genuinely worried about getting caught. About anyone getting caught. You wonder what it would be like to have her watch and care for you.

You’re just staring at each other now, and you’re pretty sure more than 10 seconds have gone by. Finally, she spins on her heel and flops over on the couch. “You do you. Just tell me if you’re going anywhere.”
