Home (Lives with parents)

Once outside, Bri momentarily forgets the strange book. She enjoys the fresh evening breeze and the beautifully shifting shades of sky color as the sun sinks below the horizon. After spending the better part of her day moving boxes and junk around a cramped attic, the stroll out in the open is refreshing. Bri stretches her arms above her head with a soft sigh of contentment. What a beautiful evening.

It's perhaps a fifteen minute walk through safe suburban neighborhoods to her parent's house. Despite being nineteen years old and a freshman at the local community college, Bri hasn't left home. She just worries about all the chaos and uncertainty of striking out on her own; she likes the security of the home she's always known.

"Hey, Bri, how did it go?" Her mother's voice comes from somewhere inside the house as the teen enters.

"Good. I got about half of it all moved from the attic to the garage. There was a lot of loose stuff I had to box up, but it was fine." Bri makes her way into the kitchen to seek out whatever was left of dinner. Her mom kept a pretty strict schedule for meals, and Bri is a full hour late, meaning all food would already be in the fridge. Sure enough, a single plate was set aside for Bri, carefully covered with plastic wrap. Mom's classic move.

"Thanks again for doing that. I know it's not a fun way to spend a Saturday." Bri's mother appears in a doorway on the other side of the kitchen, apparently folding some clothes in the laundry room. Margaret is in her mid-forties and is almost aggressively average, physically. A lovely woman of average height and build, with brown eyes and straight brown hair. As far as Bri knows, she's always just been the domestic type, with no aspirations or ambitions beyond motherhood. Bri's parents were high school sweethearts, got married young, and settled down quickly, and that was that.

Her mom continues, "With Dad away so much lately since his promotion, and your brother busy with his new business, I just haven't had the energy to take that on. I know it's really important to Dad and he's been eager to see it done, so just... thanks." She seems tired.

"You're welcome. I had time, anyway. Really, it's not a big deal. It was actually pretty neat. I saw some old photographs and things so it was like getting to know Grandma and Grandpa in a new light. I had fun." Bri smiles reassuringly, suddenly recalling the weird book and its erotic nature, and her smile turns into a silly grin. She turns away to reheat her dinner plate in the microwave.

Her mom laughs, "Oh, that sounds interesting! Be sure to set things like that aside; I'd love to see them. Dad's family has always been pretty secretive, I'm not sure even he knew too much about his parents. Oh, this could be a great opportunity to learn more about his whole family!"

Bri nods to herself. Yeah, like finding out Grandma may have had a whole bondage fetish or occult fascination we never knew about.

"Alright, I'll let you eat and relax a bit. Robert's not coming home tonight, either, so it's just us girls at home. Do you want to do anything later? We could watch that show you've been telling me about."

The diary feels like it's burning a hole in Bri's pocket. She's quite anxious to give it another look, but then, spending some time with her mom could be nice.
