Hide and seek

"I'll hide firsht!" Heather declared. She was arguably even bossier when drunk.

"Okay!" Gavin agreed.

"Close your eyes," she said. "And count to... 50!" Gavin obeyed, his drunken brain so focused on the complicated task of keeping track of the number he was on that he didn't notice when Heather swiped his glasses, giggling maniacally to herself as she shot off into the reeds.

"49... 50," he said, opening his eyes 50 seconds later. "Hey, what the...?" He looked around, his vision a blur. "Ish thish what being drunksh like?" Heather had to stifle her giggles as she watched from a distance; she couldn't resist sticking around to see his reaction.

With his arms outstretched like a mummy he headed towards the reeds, by chance directly towards Heather. She scurried off, less concerned with hiding than with watching Gavin's antics from a distance. A thud and a cry of surprise from behind told her he had bit the dust for what must have been the 30th time that day. She could no longer stifle her laughter.

"Grrrr," Gavin growled weakly from the floor as her giggles filled the island. "I'm coming to get you Raversh!" He patted at his face, checking to see if his glasses were alright, before letting loose a cry of outrage. "Agh! You cheat, I can't believe you did that!"

"Good luck!" Heather called mockingly from somewhere in front of him. He returned to his feet angrily, putting out his arms and heading into the reeds to track her down.
