Chapter 8

What does Anna dream about?

Her journey to the city.

The room was simple, one window, a straw mattress bed, a table and chair and a candlestick with holder for light. But simple though it was, it was warm and dry and that made it worlds better than the places she'd been sleeping for the last few nights. She stripped naked and put her soaked set of clothes to dry on the chair before settling into the bed. The tension she had felt for the weeks since leaving her villiage was finally being eased as she quickly drifted into a deep sleep.

As she surfed the waves of unconsciousness Anna dreamed of her journey to the city. The sight of her village on fire, her friends running for their lives, caused her to toss and turn in her sleep. In her dream she saw again moment the emormous orc chieftain smashed through the wall of her home in a terrifying battle rage, how she had hidden below the floorboards and how she had to keep quiet. She saw the moments when the other women her age in the village were rounded up to be taken as conqubines for the orc clan.

Then she was back on the road, travelling from town to town, selling off her valuable items to fund her journey. The different locations blurred and muddied together, the dreamscape blending the different stops on her trip. The dream shifted again and she was in the tavern arriving cold and wet. Gideon was there, welcoming her to the tavern and she found herself in his arms, giving him a hug as she relayed her adventures to him.

The dream slowly faded into deep dreamless sleep and with an uneventful night she found herself waking with the morning sun streaming through her window.

The next day.
