Helena's neko mind-swap.

Novice witch Helena Planchet was madly, hopelessly in love with her classmate Troy Deville. Madly because she couldn't get over her crush no matter how hard she tried, and hopelessly because she knew he would never go out with her. Even if she wasn't so awkward and plain, Troy was already dating the beautiful Stacy Lovesong.

But all that was about to change thanks to the new spell Helena had been studying for the better part of a month now. "If I can't beat Stacy, I'll just have to be Stacy," Helena thought to herself as she prepared the posession spell. It was the most advanced magic she had ever tried to use, a forbidden spell that would allow her to completely take over a target's life, but she had prepared everything perfectly. She had spent the last two days isolated in her chamber, preparing each ingredient and making sure she had every line and symbol of the casting circle just right to key in her target.

This kind of spell wasn't as simple as just writing down the name of the person whose life you wanted to steal, or throwing a lock of her hair into the circle. It was more conceptual than that, but by keying it to the female my love feels the strongest emotional tie to Helena was confident that it would target Stacy.

She had no way to know that Stacy had broken up with Troy yesterday, and that even as Helena lit the last candle and uttered the words of power, Troy was lying on his bed and trying to cheer himself up by stroking his sleeping cat familiar's back. So Helena was quite surprised to find her spirit drawn not into that leggy blonde she envied so, but into a small body with all the wrong proportions.

For a while Helena was too overwhelmed by the unexpected shape and altered senses of her new body to make sense of anything. But as her mind adapted to its surroundings, the sensory overload resolved itself and the world stopped spinning. With her eyes clenched shut, touch and sound guided her. She was curled up on a warm surface under which she could feel a faint, rhythmic thumping. She could hear it too, a repetitive thu-thump, thu-thump, and she heard the sound of breathing just inches away from her head. She could feel that too, puffs of warm air blowing against her overly sensitive ears. Finally, she felt what could only be a set of oversized fingers running down her back, flattening her fur before lifting up to start over at the base of her neck.

Why did she have fur? What monster held her in its grasp? Had the spell gone so wrong that she'd been knocked into some animal about to be eaten by a wild ogre?

Helena was frozen by fear. But she knew playing dead wouldn't help her, and as a self-respecting witch she would look **** in the face before it took her.
