Helen Loosens Up

“It is a dumb movie,” Joey said. “But not when you’re high.”

He held up his joint to emphasize his point.

“Could I try?” Helen asked.

The question rolled out of her mouth before she could even process what she had said.

Joey stared at her, stunned.

“Really? Little Miss perfect is going to try weed?”

Helen nodded.

What was she thinking? She knew she shouldn’t, but she was so curious.

Joey handed Helen the joint and gave her a little instruction. She followed his advice and inhaled the smoke into her lungs before handing the joint back to him.

At first, Helen felt nothing. Then she began to feel dizzy and light headed. She sank into the warmth and fuzz of her brain and watched the goofy animated movie, her brother holding her. She felt strange, but also wonderful.
