Heather

“Oh, goody!” Heather exclaimed. “I thought we could have some sort of mixed genders kind of thing, so here’s what we’re going to do. Zack, Kurt and Gavin will write their names on these slips of paper and then Victoria, Chloe and I will pick one of them from the bowl. Okay?”

Zack nodded, his stomach doing somersaults as he wrote his name and put in the hat that Heather brought. He was relieved that he couldn’t draw Kurt, actually any of the available options would be fine, be it his best friend, his crush or a funny girl.

Heather then shook the hat and reached inside it to pull up a name. She unfolded it and read it with a smirk.

“Zack!” she exclaimed. “That’s you!”

Zack couldn’t decipher if Heather was truly happy with drawing him or was merely faking it. He on the other hand had mixed feelings, he was going to share a room with a very sexy and funny girl, but he couldn’t deny that he preferred to share with Victoria or Chloe. He and Heather weren’t that close despite being friends for two years now. Zack could count on the fingers of one hand the times when he had been alone with the head cheerleader, on all the other times at least one of their friends was present.

He then turned back his attention to the others as Victoria picked up a name from the bowl and was reading it. “And I drew Gavin,” she smiled politely at the geek, her lab partner at school.

Zacks eyes found Gavin’s and they shared an awkward gaze, his friend didn’t seem too much comfortable on sharing a room with Zack’s crush.

“That means I get Kurt,” Chloe pointed out, trying to mask her frustration. “How nice.”

Zack noticed the lecherous way that Kurt looked at Chloe and that rang all sorts of alarms and bells inside his head. He suddenly became very worried for his best friend’s wellbeing with that douchebag in the same room as her.

“Okay, now that everything’s settled, let’s go to our rooms to unpack,” Heather said before breaking into a run towards the hallway on the left section of the cabin. “Dibs on the master room!”

“Damn it, Heather!” Kurt swore, he obviously wanted the larger bedroom.

Zack smirked at seeing Kurt upset and then followed Heather to the room she entered. Inside, he found the head cheerleader already going over her suitcases. The room was pretty nice from what he was seeing, it had a big wooden wardrobe, a king-sized bed, a desk with a chair, a mirror and another door that was closed. The king-sized bed spooked Zack a little, he wasn’t close to Heather and now he would have to share a bed with her.

“You can have the bed, I’ll just sleep on the floor,” he offered.

“Pffff…,” Heather rolled her eyes and laughed. “Like I'd let that happen. What kind of hostess I’d be if I let a friend sleep on the floor when there’s plenty of space on a nice warm bed, huh?”

“Well, thanks then,” he half-smiled, feeling really awkward in that room. He walked to the closed door and opened it, revealing a bathroom. “Hmm, there’s a bathroom here.”

“That’s why I made sure we got this room, I don’t like to go too far if I have to use the bathroom at night,” Heather said while organizing her stuff in the wardrobe. “There’s some space here in the wardrobe if you want, Zack.”

“Thanks,” Zack smiled and then joined Heather in sorting out his things.

About ten minutes later, Zack finished unpacking. As he did so, Zack wondered how he could ask Gavin to find out if Victoria had the same feelings for him. He was determined to confront her about the issue but thought that it was better to wait for a few days before springing that up on her.

As Heather still sorted out all her stuff into the wardrobe, Zack went to the window. Their room was in the back of the house, so he had a fantastic view of the lake. He noticed that Brandon and Ashley were already there laughing on a small pier.

“Brandon and Ashley are already there," he pointed out.

“Nice, we can join them once I finish here,” Heather said with a smile. “You can go change in the bathroom if you want, this will take a few more minutes.”

“Alright,” Zack told her as he went to his section in the wardrobe and retrieved one of his swimming trunks, a towel and a pair of flip-flops.

Zack changed in only a couple of minutes. He returned to the room and noticed that Heather had already finished unpacking and was waiting for him to get out of the bathroom. She had a black towel and the two pieces of a blue bikini in her hands.

“I’m changing too,” she smiled as she passed by him. “Wait for me?”

“Sure,” Zack shrugged as she went into the bathroom and closed the door.

Zack waited for a few minutes, thinking random stuff about Victoria or his other friends and how great the trip could turn out to be. Then, all of a sudden he heard two gentle knocks on the bathroom’s door.

“Zack, are you there?” Heather asked from the other side.

“I’m here,” he answered. “Is something wrong?”

“Can you help me with something here?” she asked again. “You can come in.”

“Hang on,” Zack said as he walked over to the door and opened it. The sight that greeted him on the other side surprised the hell out of him.
