Which Duo To Follow? Or Catch Back Up With Zack And Ashley?

Heather And Gavin

Gavin followed Heather down their trail and before long they had Silver Lake over their left shoulder. While the cheerleader kept at a steady but relaxed pace, Gavin found himself lagging behind, instead choosing to mess on his phone. Looking at the picture he took of the trail map, and timing his own speed, Gavin was able to come up with an average for how long the hike would take. Much to the nerd's chagrin, it was going to take at least an hour, and that was only going to happen if he kept speed with Heather.

"Will you put that away!" Heather suddenly called out, startling Gavin who shoved his phone in his pocket as if he was caught by a teacher in the middle of class, "Thank you! Now, what are you doing all the way back there?!" Heather added on, crossing her arms and halting her march.

Gavin let out a nervous gulp and silently walked up to Heather, his head low and eyes anxiously looking anywhere but Heather's face, "Sorry, I...walk slow," Gavin mumbled back to her,

"I'm not mad at you, Gavin, I was only joking about my frustration," Heather said with a surprised tone, lowering her arms, "I don't care if you use your phone, I only wanted to talk to you for at least a few minutes on this hike,"

Gavin let out a low sigh and weakly looked up at Heather, "Listen, I'm sorry, I'm not used to...what I'm trying to say is that you and I...like, me as a person, I don't," Gavin stumbled out for a moment, his cheeks starting to turn red and he finally let out a frustrated groan and stormed off,

"Whoa, hey," Heather easily said, jogging back up to Gavin and keeping at his speed, "Gavin, I know what you were trying to say, I know we don't hang out in school, or outside of school, or really anywhere else before," She explained with a little breathy laugh,

"No need to remind me," Gavin muttered back,

Heather reached out and grabbed Gavin by the shoulder, "Okay, stop, hold on a second," Heather said finally making the brown-haired teen halt, "What I was trying to explain was, I know we haven't hung out before but this trip has been fun for me, and a lot of that has been due to you. Actually, it's kinda been all due to you," She added on with a full friendly smile, "There was so much stress because of what was happening with Brandon and Ashley, not to mention my fuckhead of a cousin being here, I was having a pretty sucky first day. But then we had that nice night by the fire, we were able to talk, you were relaxed, and I had fun,"

Gavin's eyes looked up, reaching Heathers and he shifted nervously, "R-Really? You mean that?"

"Yeah, I meant it when I said you're the only one so far that is acting normal out here and I wanted to stay with you," Heather said with a short giggle, "But I can't exactly do that if you're a mile behind me and on your phone the whole time,"

"I'm sorry," Gavin groaned, now only frustrated in himself rather and nervous of Heather, "I just get so worried that I'm gonna say or do something really stupid,"

"You never say anything stupid," Heather easily replied, "You're like the smartest guy I know, and you don't need to be nervous around me, I'm not some mega-bitch who won't interact with anyone outside my click," The brunette explained crossing her arms and giving her hair a quick flick, "And you should get some more confidence, step out of your own way,"

"Hard to do when I'm around someone like you," Gavin blankly replied before his eyes widened and he began to blush hard, "Uhhh, I didn't say that...I so didn't...uh...I'm gonna start walking again,"

"Gavin, calling me beautiful isn't a stupid thing to say, it's very sweet and I appreciate it," Heather giggled as she quickly pulled the teen back from rushing off again, "And you're not so bad yourself,"

"Heh, yeah sure," Gavin pessimistically agreed,

"Oh come on, why put yourself down like that. I've seen you around school, you're always hanging out with Chloe or Grace, they are cute girls. I'm sure they've seen how good of a guy you are and shown you how handsome they see you too," Heather sweetly said, causing Gavin to let out a short weak laugh, "Exactly, see you do just fine for yourself,"

"No I don't," Gavin denied with a short shake of his head, though he now had a small smile on his face, "Chloe is like a sister, we're not as close as her and Zack, but we're just friends. Grace...that's a little complicated but no, we never...it never felt right, I guess, so we just stayed friends all the same,"

"Wait so you never..." Heather asked in minor disbelief,

"Kissed them, no," Gavin replied, shaking his head and giving his eyes a quick toss,

"Oh! I was talking about someone more than that but...seriously? Not even a kiss?" Heather asked with a near scoff which made Gavin hang his head in embarrassment, "Well no wonder you're so nervous all the time! Not having a kiss yet, that's so unfair!" Gavin continued to stand silently while Heather let out another small scoff, "No, no, nope, uh uh, not gonna work, you're too sweet for that,"

"What's that supposed to --" Gavin began to ask before feeling Heather's hand on his chin, lifting his head and then planting a long, deep kiss on his lips. Gavin froze, his heart skipping a beat while all thoughts flew out of his mind letting him only focus on the feeling of his crush's soft lips pressing against his. The few seconds felt like minutes to Gavin and he pulled along with Heather as she started to pull back.

The brunette let out a little giggle and broke the kiss-off, "Easy tiger...let's see how the rest of our hike goes before we think about taking any extra steps, hmm?" Gavin let out a slow blank nod, "Good, now come on, and this time I hope you're gonna talk to me,"

"A-Absolutely," Gavin instantly replied.
