Chapter 23 by TheUnfathomable TheUnfathomable

How's the welcoming committee?

Good at first...

The walk to the manor was quiet. Oliver seemed to be mentally preparing himself, and it was not my place to interrupt him. There were a few moments where I wordlessly prompted him to lead the way, as I did not yet know the full layout of the city, but he took this well.

I no longer required any guidance when the manor came into view. It was quite conspicuous, far bigger and grander than any other structure in the city. It had gigantic banners hanging from it, all bearing the sigil I learned was of the Normn family. The lights within showed that the house was active, but the movements did not suggest enough activity for us to be late.

As we approached, I could see the two gate guards, who looked quite tired. One of them yawned before noticing us, holding up their hand to halt us until he could speak. "Name?"

I gave a slight bow, "Mathew Kiegan, I was invited by Millana."

The guard nodded. "And him?" He gestured to Oliver.

"I was given one additional." I said, revealing nothing while saying enough to stop their questioning.

The guard gave an annoyed click of the tongue before opening the gate and leading us inside. He brought us to a large room, elegant furniture all around and many golden chandeliers or candelabras filling the room with light. "Wait here, I shall alert the lord of your arrival." With that, he went further into the manor.

I investigated the room. Nothing about it was especially noteworthy aside from the expensiveness of it. In my past life, I had never bothered with stuff like this aside from events where I needed appearances. There was just no point to it, the money was better spent on actually useful things, like bribing American politicians, which was always surprisingly easy. Oliver didn't seem to find anything of interest either, just browsing around as I was.

After a few moments, some chattering became audible behind the door the guard went through. Me and Oliver both turned to it, as the door was pushed open. There was a large group of young men that came into the room. Of them all, I could immediately recognize one face.

As he looked away from the leader of his group, Mason's eyes went huge as he saw me. "W-what the fuck? Why's that creepy preacher here?"

The leader of the group looked at him judgingly before turning to me. "You must be the one who caused a commotion in the square yesterday then?" Before I responded, I used God's Eye to confirm my suspicion on his identity.

God's Eye Activated

Kyle Normn

Title: Youngest son of Baron Norman Normn

Race: Human

Class: lvl 4 Noble (I)

Opinion of User: Judgmental, Curious, Doubtful

"Indeed, young Kyle." I responded with a smirk.

He raised his eye at me, "So, who invited you along? Didn't know we allowed any old hermit into the manor nowadays." His gaggle of supporters chuckled at his rather poor attempt at a burn.

"That would be Millana." I said, my smirk not leaving my face despite his lacking insult. 'I have immediately decided, I am not playing honorifics with this one like I did Millana. This little shit, is getting a reality check from me.'

He scoffed, "So, you couldn't resist my dear little sister's charms, despite your holy protections. How pitiful for a priest." His followers once again laughed at this feeble excuse for a mocking statement.

His expression changed from victorious to confused as I started to laugh as well. "No, no no no. To be fully honest, I'm only here to make some deals with your father. Your sister's invitation is helpful, nothing more. I am a holy man after all, and regardless of the claims of the other churches, they are not saints." I opened my smirk to reveal my teeth in a sinister expression.

A weary expression dominated his face before re regained his composure. "Oh please, like anyone could resist that harlot's advances. It truly is a miracle from the gods that she is still a virgin."

From behind his entourage, a voice called out, "One should not speak of their sister so." The blood instantly drained from Kyle's face, as he turned to face the individual his yes men parted for.

Who could this one be?
