Chapter 24
by
TheUnfathomable
Who could this one be?
The Baron shows his face
Kyle flinches as he sees the Man walking through the crowd, before quickly making an attempt to regain his composure. "F-father! What has brought you to the entrance hall?" He gave a nervous laugh, continuing to show his amateurish social skills.
God's Eye Activated
Norman Normn
Title(s): Baron of the Normn Barony, the Bastard Baron, Baron of Betrayal
Race: Human (Variant: Daemon)
Class: lvl 25 Puppeteer (III)
Opinion of User: HIDDEN BY SKILL
I raised an eyebrow. 'This man was most certainly more than I anticipated.' Norman glanced at his son in the corner of his eye. "I have come to meet a guest. The one that the sister you just mocked spoke quite highly of, and the one that you are currently annoying with your childish behavior."
Kyle opened his mouth to say something, but I chuckled and waved my hand to cut him off. "It's fine, Baron, to be honest I found it rather entertaining. His gaggle acts like the most ill thought-out garbage of a line is the greatest slight of all the eons." I chuckled to myself again, Kyle glaring at me and Norman looking at me with a somewhat intrigued expression. "Regardless, if you wish to speak with me, I most certainly am available."
He chuckled before waving me forward. I nodded to Oliver, and he followed us through Kyle's band of questionably loyal servants. After we were a decent distance from them, Norman spoke up, "It is quite interesting to hear one speak so candidly about children from a high noble family."
I gave a friendly smile, "From my experience, when children act like that, their parents either spoil them enough to not earn your respect, or would not care if you gave them a proper taste of the real world. I hope I have correctly guessed you to be in the latter?"
He gave a firm nod as we continued walking. "Indeed. I don't know how much you are aware of, but there is currently a big feud of sorts between my children over who will take my title. They each build up their own little support systems. Kyle has his... mob. Millana is confusing, no matter how much I try to get her a stable relationship for support, she always turns them down or uses them to breaking points." He let out a sigh. "Lana has her church, something we can speak about before we reach dinner, as that may be a problem. And then we have my second son, Nathaniel, with his swordsmanship and the academy. Though, he may end up not needing my title, as a knight of the king could fare him better than managing these lands."
I gave a slight cough to show I wished to speak, and he nodded. "If it is alright with you my lord, I have matter to speak of that could make your lands extremely valuable. But those are matters for a later time. I noticed you did not speak of your first son. By most laws of inheritance by which I am aware, the eldest son usually acquires the title."
He slowed for a moment as he seemed to consider how to respond. "My eldest son is, for the sake of inheritance, dead to us." It seemed this was not just news to me, as Oliver flinched. "And I do agree, business such as that shall be conducted during or after our meal. For now, I must apologize and say we must involve ourselves in my children's politics."
With that, we arrived at a great, elegant door. Norman took a deep breath, exhaled a slightly disappointed sigh, and opened the doors.
What awaits us?
