Go with the receptionist

There was something genuine about the receptionist, a complete change from her earlier personality, that made Leanne think she should accept her offer. She nodded slowly and watched as the old receptionist, stern faced but less cantankerous, turned down the corridor. Checking over her shoulder to confirm that Leanne had followed as agreed.

Leanne kept close behind. Looking warily in case she saw someone suspicious or the older woman tried anything funny. She still wasn't entirely certain that this wasn't a trap.

"In here," the receptionist stopped at a door and opened it before gesturing for Leanne to go inside. She felt this could easily be the ambush she was expecting but stepped inside all the same. The room wasn't like the residents'. It was more of an office/storage space, with a desk and all sorts of cupboards and boxes piled high. "We'll be safe here."

"What's going on?" questioned Leanne. Her eyes wide with panic.

"How to explain it?" the receptionist said thoughtfully. "There are certain things happening in Rosefield Manor. Things that are difficult to explain normally. But I get the feeling that you know what I'm talking about." Leanne nodded slowly as the older woman continued. "I work for a special organisation. A company intent on getting to the bottom of what's happening here and putting a stop to it."

"Wait! What?!" Of all the things Leanne expected to hear this wasn't one of them. Who exactly was this woman?

"I have limited resources due to fears that my cover might be blown," explained the receptionist. "But with your assistance, I think I can put an end to it much faster."

"You want me to help you?" blurted Leanne, flabbergasted. She had only just found out about this whole place and the weird goings on and now she was being recruited by some undercover woman from some secret organisation hell bent on stopping it. What had she stumbled into?

"You're welcome to still leave, of course." continued the older woman. "But I'm hoping that after what you've seen you'll want to stop this as much as I do. Before anyone else gets caught up in it all."
