Chapter 7 by hematoma hematoma

Go with Dan to the office or part ways?

Go with Dan to the office

Even though you've got a pocket full of cash, you feel this opportunity sounds too good to pass up.

"Does it pay well?" You ask, trying to keep the excited tone out of your voice.

"You won't be buying a car like this," Dan runs his fingers across the leather seat next to you. "It pays pretty well though."

"And I'll have plenty to do? I can't stand being a third wheel."

"Oh," Dan snickers, "I'll find something to keep you busy."

"Alright!" You say with glee. "Count me in."

You buckle your seatbelt and Dan slams the pedal down, peeling out of the stripmall's parking lot. It's a ten minute drive downtown to the Horace & Nylan offices. Along the way, Dan fills you in about the job.

"You'll be a personal satisfaction consultant," he explains. "Basically, your job is to make sure all of our client and employee needs are met. You need to keep morale high and you might have to spend late hours ensuring our clients are satisfied."

"Sounds good so far," you observe.

"Don't go overboard," he continues. "Most of us at the office are pretty normal, but some of our clients may have special needs. You'll be expected to take care of them at a moment's notice. Do you know what I mean by that?"

He leers at you.

"Yes," you reply with an uncharacteristic blush.

"My personal assistant, Heather, will help you with your wardrobe as needed."

"I get clothes?"

Dan eyes your rumpled pyjamas.

"I like the 'just got up look', but this is a professional office. We have an extensive loaner wardrobe. Heather will help you pick what's appropriate."

"Gotcha, boss," you say.

"Mmmmm," he peers at your cleavage again as you approach the parking garage. "I may need your help later this afternoon, when I've had a chance to recover."

You do a great job of hiding any displeasure. You just continue to smile and let him oggle your shelf of smooth titflesh.

Horace & Nylan is on the seventh floor of one of the tall office towers in downtown Central City. It's clean and finely appointed, with various executives, investors, and lawyers milling about. You get the occasional stare for your unusual outfit, but most seem to ignore you.

"Over here," Dan gestures to an office door.

Outside is a simple desk and computer. Behind the desk sits Heather, Dan's personal assistant. She is tall, shapely, and very pale, with light freckles sprayed across her nose and cheeks and perfectly feathered deep red hair. She looks very glamourous and professional. Her rectangular glasses rest almost on the tip of her nose as she peers over them at her computer.

"Ah, Mr. Randee," she says, seeing you and Dan approach. "I've got some messages for you."

Dan grabs a handful of notes from her and heads into his office. He cranes his head back out, remembering you're there.

"Oh, Heather," he says, "this is Joy. I think she will do an amazing job as personal satisfaction consultant. Can you help her find something to do for the morning? I think I'll need her back here by about 2:30."

"Absolutely, Mr. Randee," Heather replies.

Dan closes the door behind him.

"Hi," Heather gives you her hand and you shake it. "Welcome to H&N. I've got plenty of work for you, if you're up for it."

"Definitely!" You reply.

"Great," Heather smiles, "I love to see that kind of enthusiasm."

She picks up a manilla folder from her desk and opens it.

"Well, you can start one of two ways," she takes out two sheets of paper. "I've got the employee satisfaction list and the client satisfaction list. Both are running a little backlogged right now, so I could use your help on either."

Satisfy H&N employees or satisfy H&N clients?
