Get ready for a band concert

Jenna tried to focus on the day and night ahead of her and put the disappointing thoughts about her family to the back of her mind. Tonight was the final concert of the season for band class, and while she didn't have a solo or any critical part of the performance, she enjoyed being part of something and took pride in being a decent flute player.

Her parents never understood that side of her, and usually skipped the concerts and events in favor of her brothers' games, but she didn't mind much. Other members of the band looked out for her and she had friends there; their parents even checked in on her sometimes when there was a dull moment, in that casual way friends' parents do when they know their child's friend isn't in the best situation.

She packed her outfit for the performance neatly and took it to school with her, stowing it in one of the band lockers with her instrument. A lot of students went home between school and the concerts, but she found it easier to just stay there for a couple hours and either hang out with other people that stayed or just enjoy the quiet time before the brazen brass of musical instruments in the auditorium.

Despite not having anything that drew particular attention to her during the performance, she always felt a little nervous as she prepared to perform.
