Freshman Orientation

Freshman orientation is a program usually run by the university (though not always) that helps incoming freshmen get to know each other before their classes start.

Often, freshman are separated into smaller groups where they participate activities like games, icebreakers, sports, etc. Usually these are pretty tame, and only serve to get students out of their comfort zones.

However, some orientation programs are more like hazing (usually not run by the university), and instead lead by older students who have gone through such hazing themselves. A rather famous example of this is the Swedish "nollning" (translated as "zeroing"), where incoming freshmen are broken into teams that compete with each other for points. Points are earned by doing all kinds of things, ranging from the tame activities listed above to forming the longest chain made out of a team's clothing.

A more American tradition is that of streaking. Though usually not associated with orientation, there have been quite a few traditions of freshman streaks.

So what happens in orientation that causes Naomi to lose her clothes?

• Does her orientation group participate in a "nollning" type initiation?
• Does she participate in a campus streak (not organized by orientation)
• Does her orientation group participate in a campus streak?
• Something else entirely?
