Fresh night air

My heart was pounding as I made my way through the tunnels towards the exit. It had been three hours since the others had left and the sun had to be gone by now. I stopped when I saw the exit. The cold fresh air was brushing against my skin and filling my lungs. The greatest breath of air of my life. I snuck towards the exit and noticed two elven guards. They were clearly bored, one leaning on her spear while the other had sat down completely. Hate bubbled up from my gut. Even without the description I would have known they were elves, my body knew, the rage inside me knew.

I quickly stepped behind the leaning elf and raised her by her throat. She managed a surprised gurgle before I crushed her neck and dropped her. The sitting elf moved quickly, her hand reached the horn on her side, but I had caught the other elfs spear as it was falling and threw it at her. It pierced through her wrist and shattered her pelvis. Her mouth opened to scream but I was already there, placing my palm over it and muffling her pained crys. "Your suffering is not nearly enough. Thank your gods that I don't have time for you.", I growled, then snapped her neck.

I stepped on their horns to crush them and took their swords. Dainty, thin things without much weight behind them but they would have to suffice for now. I moved towards the house that I knew held not only the keys for my peoples chains, but also the murderer of my mother. Athrains house.

On my way there I paused for a second and looked up. It was a dark night, but compared to the true darkness of the mines it almost seemed bright. I admired the stars I could see through the clouds but quickly pulled myself back into the moment. Every second could matter.

I made it to the house without incident, avoiding the small patrols I encountered. It was the only two story house and completely dark. I circled it and figured I could either climb through a window in the back or just go through the front door.
