A window

Chapter 16 by Eismann Eismann

I decided on the window, as I didn't want to give the element of surprise away. I placed my palm against the part of the window that held the lock and then gave it a quick push. The lock broke and the window swung open. When I placed my hand on the windowsill and swung myself through, I knew I had made a mistake. A ring of runes lining the inside on the windowlit up and the sound of a horn blared. My feet had barely hit the ground inside, when I sensed danger approaching fast. About a dozen ropes flung themselves at me like angry snakes and tried to restrain me. They coiled around my wrists and ankles, pulling them together and putting me of balance. They strangled me and tried to pull me to the ground. I was resistant to magic, but the ropes themselves werent magical, just animated by it. 'No way', I thought, 'Not this easily'. My muscles bulged and the ropes ached against my strength. I finally managed to rip through the rope around my wrists and used my hands to tear the remaining ropes to shreds. I had dropped my swords.

I heard footsteps approaching the door and it it swung open. I recognised the face of the elf who opened the door, one of the officers who I had been told was cruel even by elven standards. "In he-", he coudn't finish. I just grabbed his whole face, pressing his mouth shut with my thumb. "Perceptive.", I mocked him before spinning his skull 180 degrees. He slumped over, lifeless.

"I liked that one, he always had stamina.", I heard a voice coming from upstairs. I looked in the pretty face of Athrain, her white hair fell loosely around her shoulders and she was already wearing her armour. I picked up the sword of the officer and turned to face her. "You will have to replace him, you understand, don't you?", her expression was insufferably smug.
