Frank's voice trembles as he relates the tale. "It was a Tuesday night. Two of our workers, Mateo and Ramon, were on the night shift, excavating the old Benicka House basement. They were good workers, and they'd been with us for a while. But that night, they must have walked off the job."

I furrow my brow, wondering what might cause two solid workers to just walk off the job. I make some notes in my battered journal. "So, did they say why they walked off the job? Did they see something in Benicka House that spooked them. If possible, I'd like to talk to them?"

Frank shakes his head, his face a mixture of sadness and confusion. "I don't think so. I never did hear from them again. When the morning crew arrived at the work site, they were just...gone. I can tell that Frank is unsettled by the whole affair. "We figured they must have left town, scared or disgruntled by something, maybe embarrassed."

The fact that two hardworking men could just disappear without a trace in such a small town is unsettling, to say the least. I frown, pondering the disappearance of the two workers. "So, none of the other crew members or anyone from town have seen Mateo and Ramon since that night?"

Frank shakes his head, his expression grave. "Not a single sign. Nobody I know has seen them, since that night. They didn't have families, but I inquired with the other workers. Nothing. It's as if they've vanished into thin air." Something is definitely amiss in Benicka House, and it seems Frank knows more than he's letting on.

As Frank recounts the tale, I can't help but feel a chill run down my spine. I nod, understanding the gravity of the situation. "You mentioned that things started getting strange after they left. What sort of things have you been dealing with on the construction site?"

Frank's face contorts with a mix of apprehension and anger. "At first, it was just small things. Tools going missing, equipment not working, and strange noises in the night. We all chalked it up to coincidence or maybe some local kids trying to mess with us. But as time went on, things escalated."

He takes a deep breath before continuing. "There have been multiple instances where the workers have seen shadows moving, or heard whispers when they're alone on the site. A few of them refused to come back. The place just feels... wrong."

I listen intently as Frank relates the spooky happenings on the construction site. It seems that something sinister lurks within the walls of Benicka House. With the added information about the mysterious disappearances and strange phenomena, it's evident that I'm dealing with a complex mystery. I thank Frank for his time and head back to the truck.
