First steps

The Woman looked around her surroundings, a car passing by with a honk. Looking to her left, she saw that the car was heading to the town in question that she had seen on the sign.

"Well, can't be standing here all day." The Woman said with a chuckle, "The first step to freedom is the first step I take."

"She's my Cherry Pie! Put a smile on your face, ten miles wide! Looks so good, makes a grown man cry! Sweet Cher-"

*Click*

"Hey!" The twenty-five year old brunette policewoman in the passengers' seat yelled at the twenty-five year old redheaded policewoman driving down the road, taking her headset back from the latter. "That was my jam!"

"Cleo, for the last time, we are on patrol." The brunette said in annoyance, "This isn't a freaking road trip like we did in college. We're Officers of The Law now. That means we act like it!"

"'Officers of The Law'. Pfft! We're just a couple of traffic cops waiting for someone to go ninety in a school zone." Cleo stated, rolling her eyes. At her friend and partner's annoyed expression, she said, "Well, Officer Allie, may I at least just belt to my music in the privacy of the car?"

"First off, it's Officer Sinclair!" Alice spat, rolling her eyes. "Second, we're not in privacy, we have cameras inside the vehicle, too. And finally," she donned an impish smirk, "everyone knows you sing like someone is strangling a dying cat."

"Why you little -"

"Officers Jackson and Sinclair, come in. Over." A voice over the radio said. "Officers Jackson and Sinclair, do you copy? Over."

"This is Officer Sinclair." Alice responded into the radio. "What's the problem, Dispatch?"

"We just got a reported sighting of two naked women on the side of the road two miles out of town. Suspects described as two caucasian women, one with red hair and green eyes and the other blonde with blue eyes. Suspects may have separated. Over."

"Rodger that, Dispatch. We'll check it out. Over and out." Alice replied before hanging up.

"Don't think we won't talk about you insulting my singing voice later, Alice!"

"Drop it, Cleo!" Alice groaned.

"WHERE IS SHE?!"

The Guards and Scientists of the research facility gulped as a woman in her early forties dressed in a business suit and a pair of black dress shoes stormed into the underground facility, anger clearly written on her face. "WHERE THE HELL IS SUBJECT N0V-A?!"

"W-we're searching as we speak, Ms. Sanchez!" One of the Lead Scientists stammered. "It's not an easy task, I may add. Subject N0V-A was augmented for stealth espionage; she could be anyone and anywhere by now."

"Don't give me excuses. Give me results!" Ms. Sanchez snapped, pushing the scientist back a bit. "And I know what Subject N0V-A was augmented for! What I want to know, is where is she now and how do you intend to find her before she blows the lid on what my company is doing?!"

"Well, we thought we could release Subject E15-A into the wild to track her down... Uh, with your permission, of course." The Scientist said, "She was augmented with superior tracking skills for assassinations, and our designs made it clear that only our augmented humans can tell which ones are their 'Brothers and Sisters' and which are normal people."

Ms. Sanchez took a deep breath and sighed. "I don't like it, but if it's the best way to bring her back, then fine. But tell E15-A that I want N0V-A brought back alive!"

"I suppose the first thing I should do when I find this town is get some clothes." N0V-A said to herself as she walked down the road, not even bothering to hide or cover herself. "The facility didn't mind nudity so much, but I doubt the outside world is gonna feel the same way."

No sooner had she said this when she heard a brief siren that caused her to stop, looking over her shoulder to see a police car pull up behind her as Officer Alice Sinclair stepped out... With Officer Cleo Jackson asleep in the passengers' seat.

"Enjoying your little stroll, Ma'am?" Alice asked rhetorically.
