Chapter 7

What spell does she use?
Fire [Majority Vote]
Yessil lifted a hand and focused on the primordial energy around her. As her eyes filled with a fiery power she let the magic expand from her fingertips and fly towards her enemies. The barrage of fire expanded turning into a wave of heat that the caster easily moved around to connect with each of her assailants.
The raiding goblin’s couldn’t react in time to what they saw and most barely screamed as the tongues of fire clashed against their skin. The intense flames danced around their forms, slowly but surely spreading to consume them completely. They fell to the ground and rolled in agony trying to douse the magical flames to no avail. Some pleaded in an intelligible to the half-elf, but the damage was already done, and it didn’t take long for the goblins to cease moving.
Yessil looked around breathing heavily with a somewhat mortified expression. She knew what she was doing, it was still not a pretty sight to witness for the first time. She shook her head and took a deep breath trying to clam herself. The scent of charred flesh sneaked its way onto her nostrils, and she simply frowned at that.
Looking around Yessil approached one of the bodies and moved her hand lightly. A gust of wind came from her palm cooling down the heated body. She continued to control it for a while until she was sure it wasn’t dangerous to touch and then proceeded to look through the goblin’s belongings. He didn’t seem to have anything besides the dagger on his hand and a strange looking medallion strapped to the side of his belt.
The caster looked at the medallion curiously. It seemed to be made out of black stone and depicted an opened eye with a few runes around it. She ran her fingers through the stone and found nothing more than what was already plain to see.
She looked through the rest of the fallen goblins and was surprised to find that they all appeared to have a similar medallion between their items. She pocketed them and thought carefully about what they could mean. It was possible these creatures weren’t working alone, but the quest had specifically indicated the five goblins that laid on the ground around her. It was strange, but the caster figured that it would be a mystery for another time.
The half-elf looked up and notice the sun drifting off on the sky. Sighing she stood up, cut off one of the goblin’s fingers, and began making her way back to the guild hall. She was still a little confused as to what she had discovered, but in the end she had managed to complete her job and would be able to join the guild. That should be enough for now, right?
As Yessil stepped onto the guild hall once more she was surprised to see the place was even more packed than her previous visit. The moon was already creeping to its zenith, but the adventurers were still drinking full of energy at the bar. The ambience managed to make Yessil smile and get ready for the future.
She found Lionel on a table speaking to a bull-man and approached tentatively. She stood close by as the men finished their conversation, waiting patiently. The warrior spoke simply, he seemed to be another adventurer finishing a contract and when his payment was given he simply stood up and left. Lionel took a swig of his ale before noticing Yessil.
“Ah, the new caster. How’s it going love?” He smiled warmly once more motioning a hand to the seat in front of him.
“Hello Lionel, I completed the quest.” Yessil smiled proudly, it had been extremely easy, but it was still an accomplishment.
“Is that so?” Lionel lifted an eyebrow curiously. “You got all the goblins?”
Yessil nodded and took out the medallions she had collected as well as the disembodied finger. She placed the items on the table and expected happily for a response.
The dark-elf simply took the finger and nodded approvingly. “Well this is certainly a goblin’s. We usually take heads, but this will do.” He then proceeded to pick up one of the medallions and fell quiet as he looked it over.
“Is something wrong?”
“No, nothing to worry about.” Lionel’s demeanour had changed lightly. He still tried to give off a calming aura, but something in his gaze was clearly worried. “You found these on the goblins?”
“Yes, they were all carrying one.”
“Well, that might be a problem for later.” He sighed and put the medallions on his briefcase. “But for now your job has been completed. You won’t get payment as this was your entrance fee, but feel free to stay the night on the station. You have earned it kid.”
Yessil’s face brightened up. She took Lionel’s hand and shook it thankfully before standing up. She stood up and walked over to the bar for a celebratory drink when she felt a hand on her shoulder.
“Hello kitten, glad to see you’re safe.”
The half-elf turned around to see Lizette smiling down at her.
“Can I presume you were successful on your mission?”
“Y- yes.”
“That’s great to hear.” Lizette wrapped an arm around the younger adventurer and followed her to the bar. “And tell me, did you use my gift?”
“N- no. I was able to handle myself.” Yessil felt surprisingly good saying that.
“Well, that is even more of a reason to celebrate then.” She lifted a hand and the bartender quickly began preparing some drinks. “But that does mean that you can still return my scroll and be free of your debt though.”
“Can I?”
“Sure.” Lizette smiled. The bartender brough a pair of drinks for the girls and the fox woman took a sip of one. “I mean, I could be a ruthless business woman and **** you to pay and keep it for now. But scrolls are hard to make and I wouldn’t be opposed to having a second shot under my sleeve.”
“Wow, I didn’t really think about that.” Yessil took her drink and took a sip. The beverage had a fruity taste, but seemed to burn softly. “And you won’t feel bad about it?”
“It will be a shame to not have you keep me company tonight, but I am not a monster.” The vixen shrugged after being more direct about her payment. “If you desire to break free from the contract just hand over the scroll.”
Yessil sat there thinking the offer over.
She could give the scroll back and go about her day.
Or she could keep it and follow Lizette for the night.
Alternatively she could give it back, but still go with the older caster.
