Final Exam

Chapter 13 by Peter_ENF

The exams were behind them like a long, dry road.

Everyone had been given questions—in different subjects, at different tables, with different faces in front of them. Politics. German. Bio. Whatever the week had thrown their way. No one had been brilliant. No one had failed. The grades were in an envelope on Victoria’s desk, not yet public, not yet officially announced. Passing. Barely. Passed.

She didn’t tell them.

On Saturday evening, the classroom was no longer a classroom. The desks were pushed against the wall, a cheap string of lights hung over the blackboard, and music played through a speaker. Everyone was already there. Everyone was waiting for her to come in and announce whether they had passed.

Victoria Chapell walked in and said nothing.

She walked to the center of the room. She turned on the music. A bass line, slow enough to undress to, loud enough that no one had to ask for the list. Then she began to strip. First, the blazer. It slid off her shoulders, hung on her elbows for a breath, then fell. Beneath it, the blouse—light-colored, buttoned all the way up to her neck, as if there were still a dress code. Victoria undid button after button. The class held its breath with her. With each button, more skin was revealed: her collarbone, the base of her breasts, the black lace bra she hadn’t worn for the exam, but just in case the urge struck. The blouse landed on the chair.

She turned once, slowly, her back to the front row, and unzipped her skirt. The zipper ran down her spine. The fabric parted over her buttocks, over the top of her panties, over her bare thighs. The skirt fell. Applause—hesitant at first, then more confident. Victoria stood there in her bra and panties, her arms not crossed over her chest. Anyone who wanted to pass should see that she’d taken the line about the fan seriously. She unhooked her bra. The straps slipped. Her breasts were free, heavy, warm beneath the cheap string of lights; her nipples firm, dark, impossible to miss. Levi let out a sound he hadn’t made in a week of class. Noah stood there with his cup in his hand and forgot to drink.

She hooked her thumbs into her panties.

For a heartbeat, the fabric remained the final barrier. Then she let it fall.

Her panties landed at her feet. Her shaved pubic area lay exposed in the light, her labia smooth, a shadow between them. Her buttocks bare. Her entire body naked. Just Victoria Chapell in the middle of House B.

When the last pair of panties fell, they cheered.

Not because they’d undressed a teacher. Because they understood. She was at the party. She was naked. So the wish had come true. So they’d passed. Victoria danced on a little longer.

Alone, at first. Her hips moving to the beat, her breasts swaying, sweat already trickling down the small of her back. Then others joined her. Groups. A circle. Noah’s hand on her waist, not counting. Sofia’s forehead against her shoulder, laughing. Levi behind her, too close, the fabric of his pants unmistakable, and she turned toward him and danced anyway, because today no one was writing down minutes in a book anymore.

It wasn’t student and teacher anymore. It was people celebrating a victory. They drank a lot. Beer, something strong from a bottle without a label. There was a lot of groping. Hands on her bare butt, on her hip, briefly on her chest, a kiss on the mouth that tasted of alcohol and relief. Victoria kissed back—not everyone, not deliberately, just wherever the evening took her. Maya wasn’t filming openly. Maya stood on the sidelines and smiled as if the evening were already set in stone.

At some point, the music was just a backdrop. At some point, Victoria was sitting naked on a table, laughing, a cup in her hand, her body sticky, her head light. This is how the group photo came about: her in the middle, naked, everyone around her, Maya’s arm outstretched, the flash white.

After that, everything went blurry.

---

She woke up alone on the couch at home. Sunday. Her mouth was dry. Her body was naked under a blanket she didn’t remember putting there. Her cell phone rang.

The principal.

“Ms. Chapell. An outstanding performance. It was close, but everyone passed. I’d like to hire you permanently. The next crash course starts in a month. Oral exam prep. A new class. They’ve been asking for you. Please come.”

Victoria closed her eyes. Her hangover was pounding.

“In a month,” she repeated.

“In a month. Eight o’clock. Building B.”

She said yes. Because “yes” was her job.

---

A month later, on Monday at eight o’clock, she walked into Room 4.

A new class president stood up.

“Good morning, Ms. Chapell.”

Everyone was on time. Twenty new faces. Notebooks already on the desks.

There was a package on her desk. The rulebook, slightly altered, tied with a bow. A small card.

Victoria read it before she even sat down.

*Thank you so much for getting us through the exam. This is a small memento. By the way, I’ve destroyed all the originals of the house rules. Only these versions exist now. You’ve received a special one.*

She opened the book and stopped.

Photos everywhere.

Her naked by the window. Her on the table, legs spread. Her with a swim cap at the edge of the pool. The fan, the wool dress on the grate, her in black lace. The red butt. The jumpsuit on the floor. Pictures she hadn’t posed for. Cameras she hadn’t noticed. Every detail of the week lay between the rules and the punishments, pasted in, labeled, inescapable. At the end, the group photo from the party: her naked in the middle, all the faces, her body the center.

Below it, the last sentence on the card.

*P.S. The others all have an empty book and are supposed to fill it with their own memories. You’re the best teacher we’ve ever had. Stay just the way you are. Preferably naked. Your Maya.*

Victoria closed the book. The ribbon fell onto the wood.

The new class president cleared his throat.

“Do the house rules apply to everyone? Even to you?”

Victoria Chapell looked at the twenty punctual faces. The thick volume. The map. The month that had been enough to burn an original and bind a legend.

“Sit down,” she said. Her voice was hoarse yet clear. “Crash course. One week.”

She put the book with the photos in the drawer.

The blank one, which had been distributed at school, remained on the desk.
