Family Matters, Part 2

Zachary knocked on his mother’s bedroom door, and she opened it soon after, looking confused about his presence.

“Mother.” Zachary said softly, “May I come in?”

“Of course.” Monica said lovingly, and stepped aside.

Zachary’s mother had changed out of the formal clothing she had worn for King Robert and the other royals. Now she wore a simple gray dress, yet no amount of simplicity could ever hide Monica’s beauty.

“Do you need something?” Monica inquired as Zachary sat down on the edge of Monica’s bed. Monica and Gregory had been on the rocks more so these last few months, so she had moved into her own bedroom.

It only freed up Gregory to spend more nights with his mistress, Summer.

“No, I just wished to be in your company.” Zachary smiled at his mother. She laughed and sat down beside him on the bed.

The two sat in companionable silence for a few moments before Zachary reached over and touched his mother’s clothed thigh. Monica gave him a curious look.

“I am sorry that Father has yet again failed to give you the respect you deserve, Mother. You are an amazing woman, and it saddens me to see how Father ignores you.” Zachary said truthfully.

Monica’s face softened, and her eyes grew a little shiny.

She slipped her arms around Zachary’s neck and hugged him tightly.

“Thank you, Zachary. Your words mean a lot.” Monica said gently. Zachary’s hand came up to rub Monica’s back, and his mother drew back from the hug slightly, leaning her beautiful face up to look at Zachary’s.

Her blue eyes shone, and Zachary knew he could easily close the distance between his mouth and hers, cross that final border into making his mother his, but he had no desire to hurry this process along, frankly.

Monica lifted a hand and stroked Zachary’s cheek lightly, smiling up at him like a proud mother should.

“You are more beautiful than any woman I have ever encountered.” Zachary said in a low voice, and his mother’s flawless complexion reddened at his compliment.

“You’re making me blush, my son.” Monica said, her full lips curved into a smile. A genuine one, not the facade she puts on for guests when Father fails to show up.

“I am simply stating truths. I could say any number of truths. The sky is blue. The trees have green leaves. You are gorgeous.” Zachary shrugged.

“You shouldn’t say such things about your mother.” Monica said, though she had no reproach in her tone.

“And why not?” Zachary challenged, “If you were not my mother, I would have long since married you.” Zachary said. Monica laughed, and she leaned in and kissed Zachary on the cheek.

“You’re too sweet.” she said, but a darkness in her blue eyes showed that she wanted more than a maternal peck on the cheek.

As did Zachary.

Zachary leaned in towards his mother’s face, slowly. Slow enough for Monica to realize his intent. He was leaving the ball in her court. To his delight, Monica leaned in, too. Her lips brushed Zachary’s, and with the initial contact made by her, he was free to have fun.

Brandon Cole opened his eyes and looked around, groaning. He tried to move, but discovered that his hands and wrists were chained.

“Hey! Where the hell am I?” he shouted.

“Prison. Now shut up!” spat an angry voice, and Brandon wisely obeyed. Prison? How the hell had he been sent to prison?
