Face the Witch

You decide to go for the witch. Surely you can handle a one on one fight. You take the right hallway, coming around the turn full-speed, but the sight that greets you stops you suddenly in your tracks.

It's Lorelei- the little witch you saved earlier. She raises a quick finger to her lips as she sees you, before pulling you into a small side-closet, and latching the door in a rush.

The two of you fall to a criss-cross sit, and Lorelei snaps her finger in frustration, until she is able to create a small, dwindling magic flame in her palm. It gives off just enough light to see each other, and she huffs out of stress.

"They say you're here to kill us. But you saved me, didn't you? I don't understand." She offers meekly. She hunches as she sits, looking at you with ****, pleading eyes. The look of someone not willing to accept that they've been betrayed. You have to offer her something.

"...I promise, I was never here to hurt you. The only person I want is the Mother." You know the truth is still bad, but you don't have many options left. Lorelei looks down, and sighs.

"I'm sorry. I tried." You're confused as she speaks, until you hear a much louder snap. The room suddenly brightens up as a proper flame is created behind you. Jerking up to your feet, and looking up, the truth dawns on you.

"I'm sorry." Lorelei says meekly, as her companion laughs. The black-haired witch who was with her before, standing proudly over the two of you, one hand raised to hold a flame, the other proudly on her hip. She laughs proudly, and then speaks in her deep tone.

"I guess you're good for something after all, Lorelei. I won't let anyone know about the duties you skipped, now." You overcome your shock and attempt to throw a punch, but are stopped with another snap from the witch. You feel as though your bones turn to jelly, and fall flat to the ground, unable to move any limb, as she laughs cockily.

As your mind begins to panic, you hear another snap. And then another, and then multiple in a row, with no apparent outcome. The witch standing over you cocks an eyebrow with a coy look, and then you hear a clap.

There was a white flash, and both witches began to cough. You look to see what has happened, and what you see takes a moment to set in. Slowly, you watch as the loud and proud witch's snobby face transforms into your own. She realizes what is happening too late, and Lorelei continues her plan.

"She's in here! The bounty hunter is in here!" She shouts, banging against the door. The once raven-haired girl, now bearing your own form, exclaims in disgust and grabs Lorelei by the collar.

"You damn bitch! I'll have your head!" She shouts, holding Lorelei against the door. Before anything else can happen, they both tumble to the ground as the door opens, revealing a massive bloated demon. It steps over the two fallen witches, and then lurches as it grabs the one that has been made to wear your face.

She screams in rage, thrashing in its grasp as she hits the demon with all four limbs, but it doesn't stop it. The creature bounds down the hallway, giggling loudly as each step fills the cavern with noise, her screams slowly trailing away in your own voice.

Lorelei gets up, and slowly helps you to her feet. Her touch restores the feeling to your limbs, and within a few minutes, you're comfortably standing again. She doesn't look you in the eye, clearly ashamed, but hands you a neatly folded note from her pocket.

"I was... gonna give you this. I just didn't find the right time. I hope you can forgive me when this is all over." She walks away in a rush, before you can reply. Left with nothing else, you open the note.

'Mother is bad to us

She needs to be stopped

Her Amulet controls the Demons

That is all you need.'

You fold the note back up, thinking to yourself. Your mind is still hatching a plan, but now you have a trick up your sleeve.

At some point, that disguise will wear off. It's time to get that amulet.
