Chapter 65 by SmallestStories SmallestStories

How many times has it been already ?

Enough to get you used to it.

When you opened your eyes, the void, which is starting to become familiar to you, was the only thing around you, its darkness spreading infinitely, as far as your eyes could see. You wondered why, this time, you were here, still with no explanation about what this place was at all.

Like the last time you got here, you were able to hear voices coming from nowhere, and this time, one of the voices you heard was familiar : After all, how would you forget the voice of the one who seemingly wanted you dead ?

Besides the voice of the god of chaos (who you just remembered hearing Atsura call "Zeromus"), there was another voice, a masculine one, that you could hear. From the tone of both voices, you could tell that they were annoyed to even speak to each other. Even if you wouldn't have guessed this by hearing their tones, their words were... Really cold.

"Do you mind telling me the reason as to why you came to see me, Balance ?" Asked Zeromus simply. "After breaking the promise that forbade us from acting in the Middle Plane, a promise that you yourself thought of ?"

With only these words, you understood that the one Zeromus referred as "Balance" must be a god, the God of Balance obviously. But this was not your main concern, as the promise that the God of Chaos spoke of made you curious. After all, what is the Middle Plane that he mentionned ? You had a faint memory of Atsura and Zeromus talking about the Lower and Lowest Planes, which if you remembered correctly were Hell and the Abyss, but you've never heard about the Middle Plane.

For now though, this question should be put aside, as presumably the God of Balance answered.

"Zeromus, you are the one who broke the promise first, by sending the Chaos Legion after Noldrin in the hopes of destroying it. Since you broke it, I cannot see why you would be mad at me for doing so too."

"So, you really want to use my name, Edo, God of Balance... Then so be it." Zeromus answered, his tone even colder than before somehow. "Like every other god, you know that the Chaos Legion is led by Atsura, and not by me. So, even though he may take his orders from me, it never once meant that I personnally interfered with the Middle Plane's fate. In the mean time, you tried to kill a being simply because you could not understand their nature. How... Disappointing, coming from you."

"You may put the blame on me, dear Zeromus." Edo said, with a tone that hinted at a sudden feeling of superiority. "But weren't you the one once again leading a strange, unknown being to this world ? Giving them power to then get them to join this Chaos Legion of yours, like you did with Atsura, this abyssal scum that you brought here from another realm ?"

This time, Zeromus' reply was strangely softer, yet had also a bitter undertone, showing that even if he didn't want to admit it, he wasn't able to find anything to help himself.

"I did not give him any power, do not think that I did. I may have lead him here, but it did not change anything about the fate of the Middle Plane, and you know it too."

The rest of the conversation blurred in your mind, as the informations you were given this time were even stranger than before. You already knew that you didn't belong in this world, that you weren't one of its inhabitants originally, but hearing gods confirm it made it so much more... Confusing.

This time though, no questions started to **** your mind, even a certain degree of clarity appeared. This explained why you did not know anything about your past. Zeromus somehow managed to steal your memories, and understanding this also made you understand just how much more answers you needed, about everything related to you now, not just about why he wanted your ****...

But your eyelids started to grow heavy again. This time, unlike when you got stabbed, the feeling was not unpleasant. It was even kind of relaxing. And without even noticing it, you let yourself be taken by the feeling, closing your eyes and drifting away...

Okay, the author here. I hope you like the story so far, because there will surely be some changes in my schedule. You see, tomorrow, school starts again in my country, and since I will go to a boarding school, I don't really know how much time I will have to write chapters. I will try my best to continue at least writing one chapter a day, and if I can't publish them after writing them, I will publish them every Friday or something. I do hope that it won't make you grow tired of the story if that didn't happen already, and thank you for reading my story so far, there's more where that came from, and I still have so much ideas.

Not for long ?
