Engagement and marriage

A few months had passed and Brandi was in Jocelyn’s office for the first time. She had never met in Jocelyn’s office alone and Jocelyn had a very serious look on her face. Brandi was more than concerned she was freaking out as to why it was just a 1 on 1 meeting.

“Brandi…I think you know why I called you in here…” Jocelyn said in a very serious tone.

“I have no clue, Jocelyn. I think this is the first time I’ve ever been in your office. It’s really nice and cozy,” she said with a smile.

“Enough about my office…” she practically barked out. “I’m gonna ask you a serious question and you better tell me the truth…” Jocelyn said as she got up and approached Brandi. Brandi would be lying if she didn’t admit that she was squirming in her chair for something she might have done. “Do you think Kari will like this ring?”

Brandi huffed and said, “I’m leaving now…”

“No no no please wait, Brandi. I’m sorry it was a bad joke,” Jocelyn said pleadingly.

“It’s not funny to create a fake firing situation,” Brandi face palmed. “Let me see the ring…” She took it and was in awe at the size of the diamond. “How much did this thing cost?”

“It doesn’t matter. Do you think she’ll like it though?”

“Yes she’s gonna love it. Are you finally popping the question?” Brandi asked with excitement.

“…yes at dinner tonight…and you’re coming to keep her in suspense,” Jocelyn said as she gave her a last minute invite.

“You’re lucky that I know we are doing steaks or I would be super pissed that you don’t give me more time to plan these things out,” Brandi said with her arms crossed. “Just be ready to pop the question, okay?”

“Roger, ma’am,” she said with a salute.

Dinner at this steakhouse always made Brandi feel extremely high class. The conversation was light between the three as Kari started to probe, “So why are we at the steakhouse tonight? What’s the occasion?”

“Uhhh…it’s for a special occasion right Brandi?” She asked unconvincingly as her eyes pleaded for help.

“Jocelyn, for the last time it’s my birthday!” Brandi said with a perfect level of annoyance.

“Babe! Why didn’t you tell me sooner it was her birthday? Now I feel really bad that we didn’t get her anything,” Kari said feeling a bit bad.

“It’s not your guy’s fault. I really try not to make a big deal about it. Jocelyn used her magic powers to probe the answer out of me,” Brandi said with a chuckle.

“She does have that power,” Kari said with a chuckle.

“Haha laugh at my expense. I’m gonna go to the restroom. Try not to have too much fun,” Jocelyn said as she got up from the table.

“I’m gonna go check on her real quick. You just sit tight, Kari,” Brandi said as she quickly followed her. Jocelyn was washing her hands when Brandi came in. “What are you waiting for? It’s the perfect time for it.”

“I’m…nervous…”Jocelyn said timidly.

“No you’re not,” Brandi said with a smile. “If anyone can make Kari happy, it’s you. Go tell her how you feel and say you want to be together for the rest of your life.”

“You’re right…Thanks, Brandi,” Jocelyn said as she hugged Brandi. She exited the bathroom as did Brandi who stayed back to watch the interaction from afar. She couldn’t hear what was said but clearly saw the ring come out, hands covering Kari’s mouth and a kiss to seal the deal after a ring slips on the finger. Brandi gave it a minute before she headed back and acted unaware of the situation.

“Did I miss something, you two?”

“We are engaged, Brandi,” Kari said showing off the ring. “Also I know it wasn’t your birthday. Your birthday is in October but I was still unsure until the ring came out. Thank you for being a part of this.”

“Absolutely! I’ll let you lovebirds enjoy the rest of your evening. I’ll see you both a work tomorrow,” Brandi said as she got up from the table.

“Hold it!” Jocelyn said to stop Brandi in her tracks. “You’re coming with us tonight.”

“Absolutely, Bee. You get to join our celebration,” Kari said getting up while holding Jocelyn’s hand. Brandi was confused but some celebrating at their place still sounded like a good time.
