What now?

End the fight

Chapter 37 by dragonmaster888

You and Midori stand in front of the massive Beedrill. Before you attack it again, you summon your Bulbasaur sword.

Though... Midori isn't the only one who has evolved.

The hilt of the sword, which previously resembles a Bulbasaur's bulb, has now transformed to resemble the flower bud on Midori's back. Several petals form the base of the weapon, and from their center emerges a thinner, sharper blade. Its new shape looks more refined and lightweight, clearly designed for faster and more precise strikes.

"Seems like the weapons can evolve too" you say.

"I guess now it will be strong enough to kick this monster's ass" Midori says.

"Let's go."

You both charge the monster.

Midori creates a storm of Razor Leaves that tears across the creature's side, forcing it to raise one of its massive arms to block the attack.

You use the opening to slide underneath the arm and strike with your whip-sword.

The blade extends farther than before, becoming thinner and more precise. You easily guide it around the monster's defenses, striking the exposed sections of its arms where the carapace doesn't cover them.

The monster screams in pain.

It stumbles backward before swinging one of its injured arms across the ground, trying to hit you.

You jump over the attack and quickly switch weapons, summoning the Squirtle water revolver.

You fire several water bullets into its body, forcing it back even further.

While the monster is distracted, Midori suddenly moves to its side.

"Sludge Bomb!" She creates a sphere of poisonous sludge between her hands and hurls it directly at the monster's face.

The poison itself has little effect on the creature, but the sludge covers its eyes and temporarily blinds it.

That's all the time you need.

You switch weapons again and summon Machop's gauntlets.

You charge forward and deliver a powerful, charged punch.

The monster is sent flying backward.

It crashes through the wall of the hive, breaking through the stone and debris before landing outside.

You and Midori don't waste any time.

You rush through the hole in the wall after it.

The monster is already struggling to free itself from the rubble, but Midori immediately summons several thick vines.

They wrap around its limbs and pin it to the ground.

"Finish it!" Midori screams.

You jump into the air and summon the Ivysaur sword once again.

For a moment, you look down at the monster.

Despite everything that happened, you still hesitate.

Then you tighten your grip.

You plunge the blade directly into its forehead.

The monster lets out one final, distorted cry.

Then it stops moving.

You pull the sword free and jump down.

Within seconds, the creature's body begins to dissolve.

"Like the others we fought..." you say. "It dissolves into that strange energy."

"Erik, what happened here?" Sig asks as she approaches you.

"That was... their leader, or at least that's what we think."

"Oh... my God..." Sig mutters.

"And the others?"

"For our group, we have a few injuries, but we're mostly fine. The Beedrills were knocked ou—"

"Wait! Don't disappear!" You hear someone scream.

You, Midori, and Sig immediately hurry back toward the others.

Several of the Beedrill girls are struggling to get back on their feet, while the others remain unconscious.

But something is terribly wrong.

Their bodies are beginning to dissolve, just like their leader.

"No... please, don't go..." Bibi sobs.

The voice comes from her.

Charlie immediately wraps her arms around Bibi, trying to comfort her as she watches her hive sisters slowly disappear.

Before any of you can do anything, the corrupted Beedrills completely dissolve into the strange dark energy.

Bibi can only stare at the empty ground where they were lying.

"Damn..." you sigh. "We won, but we weren't able to save them."

"This is rather sad..." Midori says quietly. "But I think we should head back now. We're all exhausted, and... honestly, I really want to sleep."

"Yo, girl, you evolved! That's pretty cool, though" Marcy says from the ground, still lying down while recovering from her injuries.

"Evolving can consume a lot of energy" Leaf explains. "That's probably why you're so sleepy."

You then look toward Bibi, who is still being comforted by Charlie.

"We should bring her back with us too."

Everyone nods.

Slowly, you and the girls make your way back toward Pallet.

Those of you who are still able to walk head to the town hall to report that the problem has been resolved.

After hearing what happened, Delia, with the support of the citizens, decides to organize a small festival that night to celebrate the village's safety.

Before the evening begins, you all wash yourselves and tend to your wounds.

Some of you decide to join the celebration, while others stay behind to rest.

Midori occupies your bed, completely exhausted after the battle and her evolution.

Bibi also stays in your guest room, where she can rest and have some time to process everything that has happened.

Amber, as usual, simply decides to watch the celebration from afar.

Being surrounded by too many people is simply too tiring for her.

The rest of you join the festival.

You eat, drink, and celebrate together with the citizens, who are clearly relieved that the threat is finally over.

The stars of the night are especially Marcy, who starts a drinking contest with several men and Miss Venus, and Charlie, who tries alcohol for the first time and starts drunkenly dancing around after only a few drinks.

You, however, sit slightly away from the heart of the festival, quietly enjoying your drink.

"Can't handle all the chaos tonight?" Leaf asks as she sits down beside you.

"Maybe. And you?"

"Me neither."

"It's been a long day," you say. "I needed some time to think."

"Yeah. You seemed a little shaken after the fight," Leaf says. "I'm not sure what you saw inside that hive, but I bet it wasn't pleasant."

"You're right," you reply. "I could probably use a stronger drink to forget about it."

You chuckle.

"Did someone say 'stronger drink'?"

You suddenly hear Delia's voice behind you.

She appears from behind your chair and places her hands on your shoulders.

"Oh, Miss Delia. What do you have in mind?" you ask.

"I might have something good at home that the three of us could try. And don't call me 'Miss,'" she says, pinching your cheek.

"Sowwy."

"That's better."

She gives your cheek another playful pull before letting go.

"Well, I guess it could be nice to take a break somewhere quieter," Leaf says.

"Then let's go, my dears," Delia says.

You and Leaf get up and follow Delia back to her house.
