Determine Your Truths!

A Key part of Adventuring in Ironsworn is creating not just your World, but ALSO your Truths. The default map of Ironsworn is a peninsula made up of 9 Regions.

Your Truths

The Old World: Why did the people of the Iron Lands leave the old world? Was it disease, famine, foreign invaders, something else?

Iron: Why are The Ironlands called "The Ironlands"? Is it because only people who are as hard as iron can survive the harsh land, is the landscape littered with ancient iron obelisks, or maybe the lands are just rich in iron?

Legacies: Are your people the first humans to walk these lands? Perhaps the land is littered with the ruins, and savage people of a fallen civilization? Or perhaps there is a greater mystery of just who walked these lands before The Ironlanders?

Communities: How large are the communities, how are they organized, how well connected is everyone?

Leaders: What is the leadership situation? Are there countless petty chiefs waring with each other? Perhaps the villages are ruled by a council of elders, or a local strong chief?

Defense: How well can local communities defend themselves? Can they marshal strong fighting well armed fighting forces, is the land protected by wandering rangers/wardens/ronin/etc, or are many communities so small and material poor that only by calling on everyone in the community can they hope to defend themselves?

Mysticism: Magic! Do some people still follow the "Old Ways" even though True Magic, even IF it once existed is gone? Is magic known about but only as a rarely, making it all the more dangerous? Or perhaps the land is full of magic and it is a common enough occurrence?

Religion: Do most people believe that the old gods have abandoned the world, and thus have ended their worship? Or maybe people still honor the gods, both old and new? Or perhaps the gods are many and their signs obvious? Perhaps the Gods even walk among the people?

First Born: Elves, Fey, the Fairy Folk, the Firstborn, what are they? Have they passed into legend, live in isolated communities, or perhaps their influence and their power still remain, waiting to be unleashed upon the people of The Ironlands?

Beasts: There are beasts which travel and hunt in the deep forests and high mountains, or are their? Perhaps encounters are common in the wild places? Perhaps they roam every corner? Perhaps they are little more than legend?

Horrors: The Horrors which stalk the night are little more than nightmares to scare little children. Or perhaps if you travel into the deep dark places of the land you will encounter a true nightmare? Or perhaps the horrors stalk the night and settlements light torches and post sentries in a vain attempt to drive off the horrors which own the night?

The "Truths" are both prompts and descriptors of your setting, and can also be used as Quest Prompts for your character.

You can also create your own "land" with your own "truths"
