“Man, who does a girl have to fuck to get some chicken wings in this place?” Laney pressed her chest into the man’s shoulder as she said it. The table she had approached was a bunch of office looking guys. They had plenty of wings, they could spare a few.
“Whoa, you are drunk.” The guy next to the guy she was leaning on said.
“Yeah, I’m drunk.” She admitted. Guys were always buying her drinks, but she wanted food. “But I’m also hungry and horny, so what’s it to you?”
“Actually, we are discussing something, ma’am.” Her shoulder guy responded. “I’m sure someone else would love to have your attention.”
“You can lean on me.” One of the guys said. He looked exactly like you would expect. Cubicle grunt, overdressed to impress.
“Mark.” Another guy chastised him.
“Okay, okay. Sorry lady, maybe later?”
“Seriously?” Laney asked.
“You know what? Take some wings, just stop breathing on me.” Her shoulder guy said. It stung. But so did being hungry. She grabbed the basket he offered, there were a couple left.
“Thanks.” She said, then walked to a wall and leaned against it, took a bite of the wing. It was garlic parm, and it was pretty damn good. Especially as hungry as she was.
This wasn’t sustainable. Holly told herself. She couldn’t live like this. First off, her apartment was too expensive for the crappy jobs she was getting now. "Getting and losing" the voice in the back of her head nagged. Holly had a good job until she fucked her boss and quit. She went to another office but apparently her letter of recommendation wasn’t just about her work quality. That boss expected her to fuck him, he wanted a mistress and was willing to pay for it. Even if she was someone that would be okay with that, he wanted her evenings and that didn't work with the curse. After the dramatic exit she made from that office a week after being hired she was done for the good jobs. A couple fast food joints and a convenient mart, nothing lasted even two weeks.
She was falling apart, the line between Laney and Holly was blurring and she was either leaving work to fuck someone or fucking someone at her work. She’d gone from a competent and punctual employee to the slut that couldn’t keep basic professional standards. It had taken only slightly more than a year.
You can always move back home. He mothers voice haunted her. That was the theme of her 26th birthday, come home, all your problems will disappear. Her mom meant well, but things weren't going to improve in a smaller town where half the population already knew you. Even if it meant a free room, it wasn’t an option, it couldn’t be an option. She didn’t want her parents to know what she was doing, how she was dressing, how she was living. How would her father react if he knew she would go back right now and let those office guys run a train on her for a couple more of those garlic-parm wings. No, she wouldn't go home. She just had to make it till she got paid. Meanwhile the $4.37 in her bank account wasn't going to feed her, so she was here hoping some guy would buy her some food before her daily fucking in the club bathroom, or his car, or wherever.
Laney let out a sad laugh. It felt bad enough knowing the depravity she was sinking to, but it felt even worse being turned down by an office guy in a polo. To add insult to injury, she’d eaten the pity wings he gave her to get her to leave and she was still hungry.
“You look like you could use a drink.” The speaker wasn’t overdressed, a nice shirt and jeans. He was a little over-groomed for her taste and not really handsome, but beggars aren’t choosers.
“You got a table?” She asked. He nodded.
“I’d kill for some French fries.” She offered. He smiled and took her hand, led her to his table and placed the order on his phone. Another guy, similarly dressed but a little douchier than the first guy, came over.
“Hey, Dan, who’s the broad?” Laney nearly snorted. Who used the term broad? Who was this guy?
“She’s a friend, Steve.”
“Oh, a friend.” Steve replied, overly sarcastic like he thought he was clever. Laney shot him a look and he winked back. Steve was a dick.
“Hey, you want to dance while we wait for the food?” Dan offered.
“I’d like that.” Laney answered. Better than sitting with Steve the dick.
Dan got her out to the floor, he moved pretty well. He’d work for tonight, Laney thought. He asked her name, what she did, the usual. Laney lied. Fed him a story that usually worked, she came out with friends but they left and she wanted to dance more.
Dan was growing on her, he was respectful while dancing instead of trying to grind on her or feel her up, and he had a decent enough rhythm that she actually enjoyed dancing with him. When the food came they headed back to the table for french fries with Steve the dick.
They had some nice conversation and Laney made sure to keep some kind of contact with Dan while she ate her fries and drank the fruity mixed drink Dan had bought her. Laney started to feel better. Food in her stomach, a guy for tonight. Sadly that passed for a good day right now.
“You want to dance some more?” Laney asked Dan. Steve was still annoying, and Dan was a pretty good dancer.
“We could head to another place if you want.” Dan offered.
“No, I’m good.” She replied, “Come on, let’s dance.” She stood up and tugged on his arm. He stood with her but didn’t go to the floor.
“Come on Laney, let’s get out of here.” He said, taking her hand.
Laney realized she felt strange, like she wasn’t fully herself, like her body wasn’t quite hers.
Steve took her other arm. “You look tired, let’s get you somewhere you can rest.”
Laney did feel tired, and she felt strange. Steve and Dan pulled on her arms as they led her towards the exit. It didn’t feel right.
“No.” She said. “I don’t want to go.”
“Come on, the car is outside.” Steve said to her in a hushed tone.
“No!” Laney said louder, more convinced things were not right. “I don’t want to go.”
That got some looks toward them. A couple of guys stepped towards them.
“What’s going on?”
“Our friend doesn’t feel good, we were going to take her home.”
“She looks drugged.”
“She didn’t come here with you.”
“Hey, do you know these guys?”
Laney couldn’t answer. She felt dizzy and her eyes didn't want to stay open.
