Deep in thought

Chloe was completely lost in thought as she abstractedly followed the path around the lake. Her feet simply move, one in front of the other, her mind oblivious as to where the were leading her.

She could not help but think about what her friend had told her, and how she reacted to it. At the time, she was convinced it was the right thing to say. After all, Gavin and Heather WERE the complete opposites. The perfect example of the stereotypical "beauty and the geek".

But then, the more she thought about it, the more she seemed to realize she shouldn't have been so direct with him. Gavin had always been a shy guy with little to no self esteem, and she was starting to feel that he would probably think of everything she told her as confirmation to what he thought about himself. He was such a sensible and fragile lad and he had often looked to her for comfort when he needed it.

She kept on that train of thought for a few more minutes, her mind working so hard now that she hadn't even noticed she was now firmly standing in place. Then it hit her:

"JESUS CHLOE!!!" She shouted at herself. "HOW COULD YOU BE SO STUPID!"

Now she really hated herself. Sweet Gavin had trusted her with a matter that was obviously quite delicate to handle, expecting some form of comfort or support. Instead left him hanging, feeling probably even worse.

"Way to go!" She spoke, her voice still powerful but not as thundering as it was before.

"Gavin, you're too dorky to be thinking about Heather. Don't follow your dreams an keep your nose plugged on the screen of your cellphone is the way for you, those won't hurt you."

That was basically what she had just said to him. And now he was wandering alone in a forest he did not know, probably thinking he was the biggest loser on the planet. She just felt miserable for letting her friend down, and now she started worrying about him.

"I must find him, talk to him. There's got to be some way to put this right." She thought.

But then she did not know the woods either. Hell, she wasn't even sure at what point of the trail she was having been so lost in thought. If she just went after him, she could easily get lost too. Heather! She needed Heather, she knew her way around that forest like the back of her hand. She turned to go back towards the cabin, but stopped before she even started walking. Getting Gavin face to face with Heather was far from a good idea right now.

Conflict grew within her.
