Dear old dad

You let yourself into your house and are a little suprised to find your dad already home. Until you remeber your mom is out of town for work. He must have got out of work early. You fight back a groan as you realise this means he's probably going to cook.

"Hey hey Kimmy-Cat" he greets you with an affectionate hug "Good day at school?"

"Meh" you shrug as he releases you "okay I guess. Nothing a million dollars and superpowers would fix."

"Ha, yeah I remeber those days princess." He agrees with a chuckle "Just hang in there, it does get better, I swear."

You shrug again not convinced by his platitudes. Dad had been a classic jock at high school, definitely one of the popular kids. You doubt he really understands what it's like to be a dateless nerd. And you are damn sure he has no idea what it's like to be a chubby teenage girl.

You swallow the sarcastic retort that had been on the tip of your tounge and instead follow him into the kitchen to pour youself a glass of juice. Your dad continues to make small talk, not so subtly prying into your personal life. You return the traditional monosylabic responses and wonder what lame Gen-x parenting guide this particular interrogation technique was from.

You are about to make your excuses and retreat to the relative peace of your room when a mischievous thought occours to you. With your mom away and your siblings not home yet this is the perfect time to test out your new ray-gun.

You wait until dad goes to the refrigerator then pluck it from your bag. Before you can talk yourself out of it you squeeze the trigger as your loving (if sometimes annoying) father is transformed before your eyes...
