Chapter 3 by Colleem Colleem

Darkseid send his priests to earth. Very charismatic

It was the golden age of mankind.

The newly formed Justice League had started a new era under the leadership of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and a few other heroes. The era of the superheroes. From their newly built space station, which they called the Watch Tower, they had been watching over humanity for about 4 years, during which time they had already warded off many dangers from humanity and defeated several super villains. Their greatest deed, however, was the destruction of an asteroid about 20 km in size, which would have meant the end of life on Earth. So far, the supervillains had not managed to unite under a new flag and were thus lone warriors who had to fight against a huge legion of superheroes. First and foremost, of course, was the undisputed champion of mankind, Superman, whose sheer strength and resilience made him invincible. At his side was the mysterious yet more dangerous Batman, who some organizations on Earth even defined as more dangerous than Superman, and the newly emerged Wonder Woman, Princess of the Amazons. Under these people, there had been no more major wars in the world and isolated battles between nations had ended relatively quickly, even if justice league was not directly involved. Their presence alone was enough to keep order. After all, they represented high ideals and ordinary people believed Superman more than a government. The only thing some people criticized them for was not taking action against dictators like North Korea.

Some governments feared the concentration of power that the superheroes united in themselves, but the general population stood unconditionally behind their heroes, who risked their lives every day to save random strangers. The ideal of the superhero society had dawned. Every day you could see in the news how superheroes like the Flash or other stopped bank robbers prevented arrests, disasters or worse in the world. The current President of the United States was a deep advocate and supporter of the heroes, even if the President was of course also a born politician and had managed to get a large part of the people behind him. Also because of new inventions that Star Labs, Wayne Tech or Luthor Corps could bring to the market in cooperation with Superman, the reputation was very high. For the first time since the Second World War, people believed that a peaceful future was possible, but there was one place where this development did not necessarily prove to be an advantage. The JLA had yet to experience a major alien attack on Earth. Most alien threats saw Earth as completely insignificant because it was simply too tiny and unimportant.

However, there was a dark world hidden deep in a sunless system that humans would have called hell. There, their immortal leader had long had his eye on Earth, but other wars in other parts of the galaxy were currently preventing him from returning. He therefore opted for a slightly different strategy and had hoped that mankind would destroy each other in further world wars, but was now informed by his spies that there was a group of idealists who stood in the way of this goal. In order to finally achieve his goal, he sent two of his less important servants to Earth to prepare the invasion of his armies. They were to operate quietly and secretly on Earth, uncovering weaknesses, exploring possibilities and, ideally, forcing entities into their service.

And so it was that a brother and sister arrived to build a new life there. Thanks to their special abilities, it was easy for them to integrate, as they looked almost exactly like humans and did not choose such monstrous appearances as Steppenwolf.

The two of them had been on this planet for five years now, had witnessed how the scattered heroes came together to form a powerful organization and while Godfrey looked normal, his sister was a true goddess with a body that could exert more influence than entire legions. Many had fallen for her beauty, even more for her whispers.

He had established himself as a so-called televangelist relatively early on after coming to earth and had gathered a small, but fine congregation around him that believed everything he said. He preached what was called religion on this planet. The funny divine delusion of people seriously thought that the gods cared what people did. And this despite the fact that there was actually living proof of the gods behind this woman called Wonder Woman. But these gods had never cared much about humanity. They were entities that only cared about their own interests and could be ridiculously merciless with humans. Even if he couldn't confront them directly, he had found a way to take advantage of this misconception. He had started integrating the new superheroes into his sermons relatively quickly. That they were striving to create a better society. No one but his sister suspected that the religion he preached contained traces of what was to come when Darkseid finally ruled this planet,

As a result, his influence had grown, which unfortunately had also attracted the attention of other secular organizations, especially the most represented faith on the planet, Islam and Christians, and in some interviews he had given to reporters he was repeatedly accused of building a cult, which of course he always denied, but in fact it was exactly that.

He used his abilities to turn a small portion of his flock into completely devoted, totally subjugated slaves who would have given their lives to carry out this plan. Apart from his sister, probably no one on this planet was able to coax these secrets out of their minds, and he kept the council somewhere between bondage and free will. They naturally hung on his lips while he talked about religion, but they were not completely under his spell. He intended to proceed a little more slowly, since few superheroes had the advantage of longevity. Nobody knew how long Superman would live, as his powers were constantly being regenerated by the sun. The princess, on the other hand, was definitely immortal as she was the daughter of a god. For the others, such as Batman, Flash or Aquaman, their life expectancy was much shorter and sooner or later they would die.

However, his sister warned him that each generation of supervillains or villains would always have a subsequent generation, most of which would be even stronger than the previous one. She convinced him that possible offspring of Superman with humans, or even worse of Superman and Wonder Woman. Godfrey had to acknowledge his sister's wisdom, as she had already spent a great deal of time on the home planet infiltrating the Resistance on a daily basis. She had a natural sense of danger, of betrayal, and of the possible versions of the future that could emerge from various sources.

Indeed, the threat posed by a Kryptonian and a semi-divine being was formidable. Both alone might not be able to stand up to Darkseid, but Superman and Wonder Woman together against their master would be possible, but the very idea that two beings could oppose him was blasphemy. The idea that these two would produce a child that would negate their weaknesses and magnify their strengths was horrific and so he had refrained from slowly converting this planet for the next 40 or 50 years and had accelerated his plans.

He had purposefully established himself in major cities such as Metropolis, New York and Washington and had made full use of the possibilities of the Internet and television. His followers were always looking for new ways to expand their influence or to bring rich and influential people under their control. They had recently managed to win over a Republican senator in Washington State who was campaigning against a Democratic opponent. Within hours, he had fallen completely for his sister, due of course to her incredible looks, but also in large part to her hypnotic and mind-controlling abilities. They had made it to the rural government. They looked proudly at the invitation ticket in front of him. It meant that they had managed to penetrate the highest circles, because the mega-billionaire Lex Luthor had decided to throw a party in the president's honor and the entire high class would be attending.

Even if they couldn't go there directly, they had plans to make contacts. While Amazing Grace would try to cast a spell over as many men as possible, her brother planned to preach his sermons in order to gain influence over some people. He had toyed with the idea of controlling Lex Luther, but when he had read through the man's biography, he had quickly realized that he had inhuman willpower and an exaggeratedly strong ego. Moreover, he was not a believer or anything else, but only believed in his own power, his own talent and was so convinced of himself that it would be difficult to persuade this man to do anything.

He also feared that there would be some superheroes at such an important meeting who might have the ability to perceive their alien physiology. Although they had technological devices with them that would hide their alien anatomy even from an X-ray machine and send out false life signals, they had no real idea what abilities some of the heroes had. The fact that there was a telepath who could read their minds didn't worry them. Both were trained to disguise their thoughts.

And so... it begins. The game
