Chapter 4 by Colleem Colleem

What's next?

At the party

"Have a laugh!" Clark grinned as he stood next to Bruce, but he just stood there and scowled at the people in front of him. Lex's celebration in honor of the new senator had understandably attracted the who's who of Gotham and Metropolis.

had understandably displeased. But even though things were quieter in the city and most of the supervillains were in Arkham at the moment, Bruce couldn't hide the fact that he'd rather be in Gotham.

Bruce couldn't hide the fact that he'd rather be anywhere else than here.

"Don't get on my nerves, Clark. Don't you have someone to interview?" Bruce asked, annoyed. The JLA was already three years old and he actually liked Clark, but playing the playboy for Lex here was a bit of a pain. Playboy was a horror for him. They had known for a long time that Lex wasn't a good guy to be around. However, they had no proof and so there was nothing they could do. Lex Luthor was always one step ahead of them and that really annoyed Bruce. But just as he was about to say something, Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman joined them. She was here because she was considered a great art expert.

"So, are the gentlemen arguing again?" she grinned. The two of them would hardly admit it, but they were friends and Diana also found them very pleasant to talk to. The two of them were the way men should be.

"We never argue Miss Prince!" laughed Clark amusedly.

"We do all the time!" Bruce said almost immediately and all three of them had to laugh, even if Bruce's laughter seemed very contrived.

"So Bruce. What can you tell us?" Diana asked casually and sipped her wine, which tasted horrible.

"What's that supposed to mean?" he asked, confused, and Clark laughed.

"It means that I'm sure you can give us great information about the people here and since Lois is here, I need a good story!" Clark laughed.

"Just because you guys move about the city too much and forget what it's like on the streets. Okay. We don't need to talk about Lex. He's caused enough trouble in Metropolis and Gotham." Then he started talking about some of the politicians and officials or billionaires present. But before he could finish, some woman pulled him over to Lex and engaged them in conversation.

"Shouldn't we help him?" Diana asked, but Clark shook his head.

"No. Let him suffer. He needs some entertainment too. Besides, I'm here to work."

While Diana mingled with the people and tried to gather new information, Clark got back to work. After all, he was here as a reporter and that gave him some options that he didn't have as Superman. He saw how Lois was already in contact with some of the bigwigs and Jimmy was busily taking photos. He himself strolled through the crowds a little, using his better senses to pick up interesting things.

And so he overheard a relatively well-known televangelist talking about whether Superman was a god or not. That kind of talk didn't sit well with him. He never wanted to be seen as a god or anything like that and yet there were

many people who did just that. When he approached the man who was standing in front of a small crowd and spoke, he heard that this man probably thought differently.

"No, Mrs. Ambassador. I don't think Superman is a god. According to his own words, he comes from another planet. We saw him bleed and suffer. But I think he was brought here by divine providence. I mean... just imagine

imagine if he hadn't been raised so kindly? Who could have stopped him?" the TV pastor asked the group.

Clark finally remembered how he knew the face. This man had often appeared at the senator's side. Some thought he was a saint, others a devil. Most, however, accepted that he simply wanted to help. That was why it was so satisfying that this street preacher, as his mom would call him, wasn't trying to change anything. Besides, Clark had to admit that this man was a born orator. People hung on his lips and listened to his words. It was hard for him to escape the charisma of this man. There was something about this man that fascinated him.

He noticed Lois standing in the crowd and hastily taking notes.

-You see him, sister. The Kryptonian is here," Manuel thought as his senses detected a non-human being standing in front of him in the crowd. Thanks to the advanced technology of his god Darksied, he was able to identify the reporter from the Daily Planet as Superman within seconds.

-I do, my brother. Lord Dorksied will be pleased. We have revealed one of his enemies and soon this world will tremble under our power. I will keep an eye on him and try to find out more about him."- his sister Amazing Grace replied telepathically
