Chapter 2 by Master Haug Master Haug

Your Monster

Damaskinos, Small Arcane Imp of Life

Damaskinos took a deep breath of the cold morning air in his new life, smelling the pine trees and the different animals that make this forest home. He took a moment to cast invisibility and take flight before observing the world around him which shone on the rising sun from his new vantage point.

He was on the outskirts of a proud isolated valley, high white mountains reaching for the skies on all sides that slowly greened into lush needleleaf forests that in turn gave way to flowing grasslands bright with the colors of the Spring, which combined with the crisscross of creeks made the breathtaking view of the beautiful T shaped valley.

This Spawn location had been carefully selected, in the outskirts of the far ends of the Light Side of the World where war was a distant concern and a distant memory. The closest settlement was a dwarf ranch outside the valley that would graze the flatlands at its bottom in the summer, the winters in this highland far too cold to allow for any permanent habitation. He wouldn't have to worry about them for a while, even if the perspective of scouts coming to check out the grounds made him nervous.

It was weird for him while watching the map projection and choosing a spawn location that this world was flat and shaped like 2 eggs meeting each other. Of speaking to Goddess and being reborn, this was what got to him.

No matter, it was a low level complacent location and he was going to exploit it the best he could, the Dark Sisters had given him a chance and spent if not a lot of resources on him, a lot of care, and he was determined to repay them for the chance of living again, specially in a body forever immune to disease.

He could see birds flying around him, but none had a core being normal animals and would wield him no EXP. He was still not used to how he could see and tell things like that. Besides flying monsters in the Light Side of the World as far as he was told would be limited to Metallic Dragons and he certainly did not want to meet one of those so soon. He needed to be careful to not fly too high, as the metal lizards prided themselves on keeping the skies of the Light Realm clear and could easily spot him with draconic vision regardless of his invisibility, which is why he made a mental note to only fly during the day when they slept so he did not have to risk being sniped by dragon breath from beyond his Dark Vision.

He blinked, still unused to the demonic eyes as he slowly made his way down to his target, a tall tree by the edge of the forest on the left side of the T, from which he look down at the monster boar patrolling the area. He touched down without making noise and slid behind a branch to stay out of the sight of the prey below as he unmade his invisibility, casting a new spell, while mentally keeping track of his target position.

How fare the first hunt?
