Chapter 6 by Shibbar Shibbar

The bead curtain that led into the hut swayed slightly in the wind.

Hopkins entered Lottie's hut with antivenom in hand. Lottie was kneeling by Willieburr's side, embracing his head. She turned to Hopkins as he entered, teary eyed.

"Hopkins!" she got up, from surprise or as a show of respect, or perhaps both. "You got antivenom?"

He took it out for her to see. "I will give to him, just need knife if got one."

She gave him what he needed without question and got out of his way. Hopkins crouched down next to Willieburr with the knife in his hand; he nicked him on the forearm, the blood quick to start trickling down. Lottie winced at seeing this, almost attempting to stop Hopkins, but instead she moved herself to the other side of the hut and out of sight where she could flitter in panic without distrubing him. He kept the knife upright, the tip just slightly inside the flesh, and began to pour the antivenom in a slow, steady flow into him. Once the contents of the inkwell were gone he stopped.

"He be okay?"

"Think so," Hopkins replied, bandaging the nick with a nearby rag, "I never do before, only heard from chief how to do." He looked at her and saw her face become more worried. "He be okay. No need worry, chief never wrong." He smiled reassuringly as she grew less worried.

"...Thank you," she said meekly after a pause, a tear streaking down her cheek, "I not know what I do if he... if he..."

"Is okay, he fine now." Hopkins placed a hand on her shoulder.

"I not know how to repay you. I only got few coins, not 'nuff for whole price, but I want you to take."

Lottie held out a few coins, barely enough to cover the cost of the antivenom.
