Chapter 8 by SmallestStories SmallestStories

Obviously you go !

Completely unprepared, nice !

Neither you nor Aji thought twice about it, running towards the origin of this commotion. You didn't know for her, but you were a bit anxious about what said commotion might be, after all in this world, there is no such thing as a "normal" encounter.

You finally arrived in a big street, right in the middle of... A fight. You first saw people keeping their distances, keeping a secure area and not letting anyone get pass it. In this group, you also noticed several people gathered around someone, likely to try and save them from whatever injuries they had, a young woman, sitting on the ground and looking at a computer screen, and a man, wearing a costume similar to yours, looking bored by all of this.

You then felt a tug on your sleeve, prompting you to turn your head, finally seeing the fight that was taking place : a group of Gifted fighting against... Rioters ? With weapons ? That's terrorism, isn't it ? But you weren't really convinced of it, because they didn't look like people ready to go to such extremes. And yet here they were, an army of armed rioters against five Gifted.

"An illusion spell..." Whispered Aji, seemingly entranced by something other than the fight.

And after looking at the scene better, you saw it : a flicker in the appearance of four of the five Gifted, who were fighting while taking far less risks than the fifth.

Speaking about them, their speed was unlike anything you saw before, like a dark blur in the middle of the battlefield. You didn't recognize their fighting style, but you were barely able to notice their wings. Dark wings, standing out due to their pure black color.

"How can they be this efficient ?" You murmured, taking in the sight of their graceful rampage through the rioters. It was still a rampage, but no one could deny there was a messed up beauty to it, as if every single Gifted knew exactly what they had to do, where they had to do, in a deadly dance.

Yet, it was still a rampage, and screams of dying people filled your ears, as well as Aji's, seeing how they were completely flat on her head.

"I don't like this scene." She said, her voice carrying a bit of distress.

"Me neither." You replied, noticing the distress in her voice. "You should cover your ears."

"Oh thanks." Sarcastically replied Aji, a faint hint of a smile on her face, before putting on the hood of her hoodie, covering a bit the screams.

Meanwhile, you wondered why this massacre was happening... ?

It ends as quickly as it starts.
