Coffee with Darcie

When his phone rang, Spencer woke up from his slumber. He turned to his still-sleeping girlfriend, envious of her ability to sleep through his ringtone.

Out of the bedroom, he answered the phone "Hello?"

"It's me Spencer." Darcie, Kimberly's mother, said.

"Oh, hey Darcie. Did the sleepover go well?"

"Yeah, but Amy left her phone here. Can't believe the kids lose their phones the way they're glued to the fucking things."

"I'll come to pick it up."

"Actually, I was thinking of going for a coffee at the Corner Coffee House? You wanna come?"

"Sure. Just give me a few minutes."

"Not a problem Spence. See you then."

Spencer took a quick shower and got dressed, before leaving a note for Dani. When he arrived at the Corner Coffee House, he saw Darcie inside. The two exchanged a wave before Spencer sat down with her.

"Hey Spence. How's it going?"

"Good. You?"

"Oh yeah. Good."

"Tony still recovering from the sleepover?"

"Yeah. What about your new girlfriend?"

"Ah, a little too much to drink last night."

"Fair enough. So you enjoyed having the house to yourselves?"

"Yeah... I guess I owe you one."

"I'll be sure to collect. So how you two lovebirds been going?"

"Good, yeah, it's bit of a change."

"Must be."

"Then again, I dunno, things just feels so natural... and right. I never thought it would..."

"You don't need to feel bad about being happy with someone."

"True. It's just kind of weird waking up to someone who isn't her."

"Well Spence, I can't imagine what you've been through, but I know there is enough misery and bullshit in the world to worry about without feeling guilty about being with someone. And hey, you're making someone else happy too so fuck it, right?"

Spencer gave Darcie's bluntness a chuckle. "You should make that an Instagram post."

"Pfft, I'm too blunt for these Millennials."

"True."

"Well anyway, I'm happy for you two."

"Thanks Darcie."

Once they finished their coffees, Darcie handed Spencer Amy's phone and the two went their separate ways, with Spencer buying breakfast-turned-lunch for his sleeping beauty.
