Classroom Hijinks and Hexes

Class had just started and Luna already couldn’t focus to save her life.

Mrs. Khatri droned on about the Eastern Roman Empire as Luna sat at her desk. Luna paid no attention to the lecture, her mind still reeling from Mary’s words.

How could Luna possibly give up the book? It was magic, for Pete’s Sake! You didn’t discover true blue magic and then just turn your back on it.

I just need to prove to Mary that it can be safe, Luna thought to herself.

As if to completely contradict this thought, Luna watched as the side of her backpack started to bulge outward frantically.

“Oh shit,” Luna muttered, remembering that she’d brought Frank along in her backpack.

Mrs. Khatri stopped lecturing and glared at Luna, her dark eyes dazzling against the morning sun.

“Is there a reason you are swearing in my classroom?” The teacher said, her voice betraying just the slightest touch of an accent.

“No. Sorry. I forgot something.”

Luna’s back continued to bulge with Frank’s mass.

“Would you like to share it with the class?”

“No, sorry ma’am!”

Mrs. Khatri’s glare remained icy and Luna knew she couldn’t escape the coming wrath. Then, something wonderful happened, at least as far as Luna was concerned.

Lily Marsh, little Miss Perfect in all her redheaded glory, stepped into class nearly ten minutes late.

Immediately, Miss Khatri shifted her focus from Luna to Lily.

“Welcome to class, Miss Marsh. You’re ten minutes late.”

Lily looked like crap. Her complexion was pale and deep purple rings hovered beneath her eyes. She was dressed in a bulky sweater and a baggy pair of sweatpants that made her look formless and heavy and when she stepped into class, she walked with an awkward gait as if she were limping.

“Sorry,” Lily replied. “I was in the bathroom. It won’t happen again.”

The teacher glared at Lily for several seconds before shrugging her shoulders.

“You’re one of the good ones. Sit down and don’t let it happen again or it’s detention.”

Mrs. Khatri launched back into her PowerPoint on Byzantium, Luna’s transgression seemingly forgotten.

Luna used the distraction to turn her backpack towards her such that Frank’s bulk pushed against her leg rather than being visible to everyone around her.

You’ve got air and I’m right here, you dope. Just chill out, she thought.

Lily stepped through the class with her eyes fixed on the ground. She looked so broken and defeated that even Luna felt a little sorry for her.

The redhead took the seat next to Luna on her right. Luna watched the young woman closely, suddenly remembering the previous afternoon.

Lily had been there the moment after Mary Andy Luna finished the summoning spell. What if something had happened to the girl after they left?

She certainly looked like hell.

Luna felt something push against her ankle and sighed. She missed the obedient, manageable Frank that had been nothing more than a humble earth worm.

The summoning spell bothered Luna deeply and it didn’t help that she was getting all the wrong vibes from Lily Marsh. All the perky, artificial cheer had left the pretty redhead, replaced by something much darker.

Luna closed her eyes and ran her mind over the incantation for viewing auras. It seemed like a useful spell the night prior, so she had memorized it.

Making sure Mrs. Khatri wasn’t looking, Luna whispered the incantation, feeling the air in the room shift as the energy gathered around her.

The second Luna finished the incantation, the classroom lit up with color.

Luna gasped slightly, overwhelmed by what she saw. The night prior, she had cast the spell in her room, so the results were pretty limited. Now, the sheer amount of emotional energy leaking into the air left her shocked and amazed.

Mrs. Khatri burned with a mixture of reddish light that Luna registered as anger. That seemed to fit the woman. However, her aura was tinged with a pink glow that registered as pent-up lust. How interesting.

Robby Beel, who sat in front of Luna, burned completely with a mix of pink and orange light. More various shades of lust. Luna nearly gagged as the emotional state registered.

She looked down at her backpack and saw Frank’s aura. Unsurprisingly, the aura was fueling swirl of pink and green. Nothing but lust and jealousy from that poor bastard.

Various other students showed hunger, sadness, exhaustion, and boredom. There was even one happy person in the mix.

Focus, Luna. You’ve got to get to the bottom of this thing.

Luna turned her attention to Lily Marsh, whose vacant eyes were fixed on her desk.

What Luna saw flabbergasted her. Lily’s entire body burned with the brightest pink in the entire room. It was as if every fiber of Lily’s being had been completely overtaken by lust.

There was only one place that didn’t burn pink on the young woman’s body. between Lily’s legs, Luna saw a long patch of darkness so complete that it hurt her eyes to look at.

Something about that patch of darkness filled Luna with dread. No human emotion wafted from that thing. Whatever it was, it exuded evil and darkness.

All of a sudden, the spell faltered and the world was back to normal. Luna realized she was now staring at Lily Marsh’s crotch.

Looking up, Luna nearly jumped out of her seat.

Lily was looking right at her, her deep green eyes burning with an undefinable emotion.

“Sorry,” Luna mouthed.

Her heart sank as the implication of what she had seen hit her.

The summoning spell had worked and whatever had happened the night before, it had turned Lily Marsh into something far from human.
