Chatting with Vicky

“How you doing over there, Brandon?” Victoria asked her best friend’s boyfriend as she waded knee-deep in the pond.

“I’m alright. Just doing a quick workout. How about you?” Brandon replied as he banged out a set of pushups.

“Eh,” she replied.

“Just ‘Eh!’?” he was puzzled by Vicky’s response. “Everything okay, Victoria?”

“I don’t know. It seemed like Zack was about ready to finally ask me out, but then…” she began answering but paused.

“But then what?”

“But then Heather started showing interest in him. And about an hour ago, they disappeared behind the waterfall. And they haven’t come back yet,” Vicky informed the football star.

“Ah. Got to say, I kind of saw that one coming. Ashley said that Heather has been interested in him for a while. Not as long as Zack has wanted to be with you, but pretty close to it,” Brandon informed her, immediately regretting it as he saw Vicky’s pained reaction.

“Don’t get me wrong. I’m happy for them. I mean Heather’s been looking for a nice guy for a while now, and she deserves to be happy. But I was kind of hoping a guy like Zack would ask me out. So much for that idea!” Victoria moped.

“Hey don’t get so down on yourself! There’s still a good guy out there that I’m sure would love to go out with you,” Brandon tried to cheer her up.

“Really? Who? You’re going with Ashley and Kurt’s an asshole who only thinks with his little brain,” the blonde laughed.

“What about Gavin? He’s a nice guy. I’m sure he’d love to date a girl like you.”

“Yeah, he’s a great guy, but he’s too hung up on Heather and his video games,” she replied.

“Well, if Zack and Heather are an item now, then you’re both in luck. I’ll talk to him and put the idea in his head. If I have to, I’ll take his phone away from him and won’t give it back until he talks to you!” Brandon promised.

“This should be fun to watch. Thanks Brandon!”

“Any time, Vicky! Hey, you didn’t see where Ashley ran off to, did you?”

“Um. She went to the bathroom about a half hour ago. Then…then…” she paused.

“Then what, Vick?” Brandon asked.

“Then I saw her go behind the waterfall. I figured she was going to get Zack and Heather, but I guess she decided to stay and watch,” Vicky gulped.

“No. I suspect that she joined Zack and Heather in whatever trouble they’re getting themselves into.”

“WHAT? HOW COULD SHE DO THAT TO YOU?”

“It’s okay Vicky,” Brandon tried to calm her.

“She’s cheating on you right now! How is it okay?”

“She’s not cheating. She just took her sister’s advice.”

“What advice? Did you guys break up or something?” Victoria asked.

“No. No, we didn’t break up. About two or three weeks ago, Hannah and Ashley were talking about us. Ashley told her that we were in a bit of a rut. Hannah suggested that we make our trip to the cabin a ‘Vegas Rules’ vacation,” the quarterback told his frightened friend.

“Vegas Rules?” Vicky puzzled.

“Yeah. What happens at the cabin, stays at the cabin. You know, as a way to spice things up,” he informed her.

“And you both agreed to this?”

“Not at first. We said we’d think about it. I guess she did. Which is okay with me. I love her and I trust her. Besides, I’ve been thinking about someone other than her since we got here,” Brandon told Victoria.
