You have skipped the prologue and the first three chapters and jumped to chapter four, where the story branches based on the five groups who may have acquired Alex.

Variable Defaults: Alexandra Douglas is recently divorced and followed the order to return to San Diego, instead of investigating the sailboat. When she returned to Mexico, she went back and discovered the condition of the sailboat and evaded its crew. Once undercover, She resisted her captors initially, leading to one of Katja’s dragonflies being killed. Once at the auction house, she held her blood thirst at bay until the very end, when she was given a victim she couldn’t refuse. After feeding on stage, she was sold to one of the criminal groups.
