Chapter 16: Revelation 21:8
Nyx is right, always.
NYX
"I did care for you you know?" She admitted to his phantom. Taylor stood before her a manifestation, a recollection of memories of Taylor Andrews. At least, how she remembered him.
"I know you do." He replied back.
"And I don't know if it was lust or crushing but it was horrible. I thought it was lust more than a crush. And the only way I knew how to cut it off was to tell myself you were my enemy. Over and over. . .again. . . I told myself. But you were my friend during the end of my years in high school." Taylor nodded a sympathetic look he had and as she stared back she remembered why she left and why she told herself he was an enemy. "Christian!" She hissed with malice and hate. "But enough of you now! You are my enemy!" She snapped and Taylor vanished and the scenery changed.
Desert. A beaten road. A man in chains. And she stood in the middle of a crowd. "Crucify him!" The crowd shouted. She looked up several steps. Roman guards stood by the man in chains stood there and the Roman captain spoke. Something about which man the people wanted Barabbas or Jesus! She knew what she wanted to say to this what-if memory and to this conjuring of Jesus of God and how she viewed him. Pathetic man. Choosing pain and torture over freeing himself and using his pawns. . .his angels to rescue him.
So she joined in saying it but not only for that reason but because he took her Grandfather away from her. "CRUCIFY HIM!" Hatred. She snapped her fingers that what-if, that fantasy world was gone.
Now she stood there before them. Her friends Trinity Demon, Dawn, Cin, Brayden her brother, her sister, her parents, the three Miller children, the Freya and Friday Harrison, Taylor, Alison, Katie, Stormie, Sarah, Nolan, Aunt Miranda, her cousin, Grace, and other Christian friends who saw your post on Facebook when she came out. They all were crowded around Delta. All around her or, well, a different her but her nonetheless. Delta laid on the ground motionless. Dead. They all slowly looked up from her dead body at her. Tears in their eyes.
Then somehow she knew it. The year of this memory thing was late 2020 when she came out as an atheist. They were mourning her death as a Christian. She smiled. "Was I not clear when I murdered Delta?! With her death I took command! I don't care who dies! The old woman is gone. The old belief is gone. I remain! I am her better!" Nyx then hissed at them.
Nyx's vampire fangs extended. "You are all my enemies!" She began to advance on the group especially her parents. Her thoughts. Hatred! YOU KEPT ME CHAINED AND PRISONER OF BELIEF!
"That's not true!" Dawn snapped. Stopping her in her tracks. Dawn continued, "We are your family."
"Family is a weakness. Love is a weakness. Kindness is a weakness. And I am not weak. Death of the light makes me strong. Defeating God's children makes me powerful. You are all not even the real versions of yourselves. You're all just conjurings. You're all fake. 14-year-old Delta did it before me, it's just on the inside. Living out the dream, in reality, is dangerous and stupid but here is fine. Nothing wrong because no harm comes to the real you. Delta resisted long ago. The urge. The plan. But I am her better. I AM HER DARKNESS! NYX VOSS: THE HEARTLESS ONE! She committed murder in her heart against the entire world. And that is what I'll do to here to all of you." Nyx explained. "My enemies. Serving the Tyrant." Nyx hissed. "I'll never be a slave to the make-believe fairytale about gods, demons, right and wrong, and righteousness."
"But you do believe in demons?" Dawn replied.
She did and it scared her. She fought her demons, alone. Delta fought her alone. And she. . .Nyx had to deal with them. The name the facade Nyx Voss she couldn't hide from them. She could only talk about her strength in hopes of hiding the sin and the demons that carried over from Delta to her. This name was supposed to be a reset. A way to say what Delta didn't matter because it didn't apply to her. But she was Delta but with a new name. And she couldn't rid herself of them. She tried to tell herself or himself that she didn't believe in sin but he/she still did. And she was scared deep down even though she liked deflecting and saying it was the Christian's fault or God's fault. She still believed somewhat in their God and his goodness. "I do know demons and they're scared of me," Nyx replied back. But it was the opposite she was fighting them alone and she was scared. She was Delta's better no time for weakness or crying.
That's when they all answered in unison back to her. "You don't believe that."
"I do! I am stronger than any demon! I am Delta's better! I am her better! I am my demon's better! I am better than all of you! You Christians hurt one another! You kill each other online with your words! You bully non-believers and believers! Saying so and so needs to follow your god or burn forever! Saying you're more righteous than him or more righteous than her! Look at your own sin! You all call yourself loving people! People who are not Christians are NOTHING TO YOU! NOTHING!"
"No," Dawn simply said.
Then Cin and Trinity Demon answered. "No."
"What?" Nyx said.
"You're not stronger than them. They crush you they crush us. We need help. We need someone who can defeat lust. We need God."
"Did I not tell you? Delta is dead. She died long ago. When we came out as an atheist in late 2020. She was weak so I destroyed her. I am the replacement. I am the High Queen in this body! The only voice in charge."
"I don't understand why you're so committed to painting yourself as the villain?" Dawn questioned.
"Because we were destined to be a villain. God. . .Your God hardened her heart and turned her into this." She motioned to herself.
"Evolution, change, sadness, depression, grief, loss, and other various problems and variables. I was born a new version. Insanity, cruelty, part of her goodness, and hate mixed together. But yet I am balanced and better. I am superior to him in every way. I have rebuilt the friendship that he destroyed with Taylor. I have apologized to several friends he left in the ruin. I have sent friend requests to the ones he unfriended. The friends and family Delta hurt I have rebuilt. Because of those relationships, Delta wronged I have fixed all of them. Why? Because I am her better. At the end of the day. At the end of my life. You all will forget her! You all will remember me! Not as Nyx Voss: the Heartless One! That's what she called me! You all will remember me as Nyx Voss: the Honorable One! I did what Christian Delta was too weak to do. Survive and rebuild my kingdom up from the ashes up from of her sad and pathetic life. Wheres he fell I rose. Like a phoenix. Like a star. I shined and rose while she fell."
"But Delta was full of light and good. And. . ." Dawn said thinking. "And I don't see that much light in you. Just a lot of selfish acts. Coward. You are Delta no matter what you say. You will always be Delta."
"I'll never be like her! I'll never be like the weak!" Nyx snapped.
"She wasn't weak. Not the one-sided way you see her as." Dawn replied. Nyx snapped and they all faded away. She was done talking to illusions.
